2  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Beach themed cake -- help? on: June 19, 2008 07:50:17 PM
ooh you could do plenty!

you could do a bikini torso, an easy one is a beach ball, I remember when I was younger my dad made me a beach cake, he bought some 'beach people' so so tiny, from a model store (you know, where you can buy miniature things for say, train sets and stuff) and I think there was yellow icing for sand (as they other lady said) or even yellow crystallised sprinkles, and same for the water... or tak another step and use blue jellly! paper palm trees (my dad made them I think) or buy them from the decorator stores.

I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome and Happy Birthday!

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Your honest opinion about wedding decor on: August 04, 2006 08:09:06 PM
first and foremost, congratulations!
and secondly who gives a stuff what your friend thinks. I'm sure she's a wonderful lass BUT it is your wedding and this is the day when you do the things you want to please YOURSELF and not everyone else. if its your idea and you have it flow throughout, then it's themed. there is more beauty in the random than the repetitive. especialy if it's sentimental. it makes every table, every corner that little bit more intriguing.

sure you can make life easy by picking the few definite colours you want to theme with and stick to them, and then go from there. also if you still feel like it's all a bit far out and want to hone it in a little then go grab some ideas from decorators and party themers. (Ive just started an events management course and my eyes have been opened to these BEAUTIFUL people)

Im in oz, but I have a couple of american sites that we got in a media pack from class.

http://www.bizbash.com/

http://www.party411.com/

http://www.sydneyparty.com.au/index.php?topic_id=14 (this is a sydney based site but you can check out the theme companies on the right side of the screen check out galleries and get more ideas)

then your only problem is deciding when to stop and decide!

I wish you all the best, and remember, the more sentimental the more meaningful and memorable it will be for everyone

kittell, those look awesome! what yarn did you use?

hey hey Cheesy
it had sockinette written on the band. bought it from Lincraft (shhh I work at Spotlight) oh P.S. I live in oz.
it was just the smallest woolly stuff I could find, and I used these TINY dpn's. I htink they were like... well less than 2mm, I threw out the pack (fool) but yeah turned out heaps cool, real retro looking, and not bad for a first attempt with dpns!
