I'm a novice sewer. I would like to shorten one of those ankle-length satin bridesmaid skirts to a more wearable knee-length, but I don't know how to do it. Do I just start cutting? Any advice would be very appreciated! I searched here under variations on "shorten a skirt" or "hem a skirt" but no luck. Thanks in advance for your help!!

I saw some like these at an art fair and wanted to try collage. I am having SUCH a good time doing this! But I wanted to get some opinions on these. The first two are scrapbook paper on little canvases, and the bottom one is paper with this vinyl stuff I got from an interior decorator sample book. Thanks for looking!

I got a couple of old silverware chests from our local freecycle and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the insides. I've refinished the outsides already, but I'd like to make a lining maybe, or make slots for actual silver or something. I can't seem to find any instructions on how to do anything like this. It might be a problem with my search terms which seem to come up with boxes made of silver or antiques for sale...  Any suggestions?

I got inspired by a repeat viewing of Amelie this weekend... now I am looking for a sweater/jacket/cardigan pattern similar to some on this page:

I particularly like Marcella, Madeline, and the Angelina Vintage Jacket. I can't knit so...I must find a crochet pattern. I've searched for a while on craftster, some of the various free and paid pattern sites, and looked at Amazon. Now I'm turning to my crafster friends for help!

Do you have a pattern I can beg, borrow, or steal? Do you know a book with a similar pattern?

ok, girls, why am i the only one who suggests louisville crafty gatherings??     do i just have a huger need to craft amongst friends? i dunno.  but i'm crocheting my way through a whole flock of little pink birdies and now that i don't have to have total silence and stillness to complete one without totally messing it up, i'm up for another crafty meeting! we can even have it at my house. or whatever. when is good for people?

anybody else who wants to come is welcomed to, of course.

I'd like to propose another Meeting of the Crafty Minds, the last (probably) before Christmas, and a chance to get those last few gifts and baubles ready for delivery.

Anybody in? I'm proposing mi casa in St. Matthews as our meeting place at 1:00 pm on either Decemeber 3rd, 4th, or 11th. 

I personally will be furiously trying to finish these scarfs for the fam.

I got married a few months ago, and I wanted to share one of the ideas we used that turned out - in hindsight - really well.

My best friend made our invitations, and we stuck a note in there that said something along the lines of:

                  "Dear Guests:
                           We're trying someting different with our guest book. Please bring to the reception a snapshot (copies are fine) of you with one of us, or just of you and your family.  We will provide markers, pens and papers, for you at the reception and ask that you write a note to go with your picture.
                       Love,
                            Sara and Scot"

And this worked out SO WELL. My sister-in-law announced at the reception where the pens and such were and people took them back to their tables through the night. My husband's family brought all these adorable pictures of him when he was a kid, and we got shots of parties we didn't have already. And the notes are so sweet! 

I've already looked at the album I made from the notes and pictures about a hundred times already - a LOT more than I would've looked at a guest book.
