1391  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / messenger bag / character appliques on: September 06, 2005 09:14:26 PM
so i've been playing with appliques a lot lately and tried doing some characters. i know all the copyright laws and yadda yadda.. but it was a challenge i just had to try. i made the aquateen hunger force bags for a friend, the nintendo mushroom messenger bag for a bday gift, but i had to try the brian app bag just because... now, what to do with it!

do the characters look cheesy or do they pass as decent?

thank you!  Smiley

i just used the plain ol regular snaps, but they actually hold pretty well. I got the whole snap set for about $3. they can be a bit tricky to figure out, but once you've got it, you've got it good.  Smiley

thanks for the compliments. i'm still deciding what to make next....

thank you!

i like to sew by hand, but it can be very time consuming. when i work with felt, i like to sew by hand. its fun to add the little details that you can't really do with a machine.

i do recommend a machine, even though some days, betsy (my machine) is my best friend, and other days shes lucky she doesn't fly through a window.  Grin
1394  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: so i'm making this tarot deck on: September 06, 2005 08:56:35 PM
If you want to print them just for yourself.. or even just a few sets, you should look into kinkos and see if they have some kind of thick card stock you could get them printed on and them laminate them.  Maybe like 2-4 on a sheet depending on the sides, then cut them with curved edges.

I always wanted to design my own deck. I just never had the courage to, I'm too picky and don't have the time to do it just how I want it.

Congratulations. Cheesy

patchwork pillowcases! they are so quick and easy, plus patchwork is just plain fun. Pick through what you have and sort them into little categories and do some themed little throw pillows even. I spy pillows are great gifts for kids!  Smiley
1396  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP! Craft Fair in 3 days! on: September 06, 2005 08:51:45 PM
Try making some magnets, or use some felt and make some cute little pins/broaches. These are quick and easy and that keeps that at a low selling price (great for craft fairs!). I'm not sure if you're a stitcher or not, but I make simple felt wallets and little pin cushions for craft fairs, and they always sell very well.

I'll let you know if I can think of anything else.

Good luck!  Smiley

you could check eBay, if you haven't already.

I want to find one of those big snap things for the top of a little carpet-bag clutch.

anyone know what i'm talking about? its like the little snappy do's that close at the top, like on an older change purse. I can't really look for one until I can figure out what to call them.  Huh

orignially posted elsewhere... (so I'm a newbie! Tongue)

anywhoo, so i finished a bag today! and i'm actually going to keep it. everyone always thinks that because i sew for a living, that everything i have is something i made, but actually, i never keep anything for myself, so this is mine! :]

i used felt for the tree and leaves appliques and lined it with a super cute green and earthy cotton. i think it turned out quite yummy. and there's a super cute button on the back.

http://seaofstars.com/images/newtreebag5.jpg this is the closest to the truest color... its actually a deep reddish/burgundy.

1400  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The Unconditional Swapper Swap on: September 06, 2005 07:58:59 PM
I'm so excited! This is an awesome swap! There are sooo many people I want to make things for, but I only have two arms (and one sewing machine!), so I still have to pick.  Grin

Now for my three wishes:

1. I'd love love love! some cute stationary. Note cards, letter papers, anything. I love all the little cute animal designs, but anything cute will do!

2. A necklace or earrings. I've been looking for some type simple drop necklace with some kind of stone on the end. Same for the earrings. I like dangly ones![/color]

3. Zipper pouch. I sew all the time, and it would be nice to have something from someone else. I love showing off other peoples work.

My likes and dislikes:
I love mod designs, and anything with owls or birds on it. Pink and brown is my fave color combo. I'm not a big yellow fan, but as long as its not the primary color, no bother. I don't like gold jewelry, and prefer silver or some type of cord, hemp etc. I'm actually not all that picky, so I'll be happy no matter what.  Grin

Yeah for all this crafty goodness!
