1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / felt flowers on skirt on: April 17, 2004 08:44:36 AM
Hello, I took a black Gap skirt and put felt flowers on it with embroidered stems. I'm very pleased with it.

But I'm noticing that the felt is getting fuzzy and a bit ratty looking. I used acrylic felt. Does wool felt stand up better?

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / making belts, can anyone help? on: April 15, 2004 04:44:30 PM
I splurged recently on one of these belts: http://www.maxsui.com/

Very cute, but they are $40 apiece! I am dying to try making another one myself, but I can't find the buckle they use. It's a flat buckle, with a bar in the middle but no prong; the fabric has enough traction to keep it closed without a prong. Every buckle I've seen online has prongs. I don't really want to go the d-ring route with this project.

I also can't figure out what is the substance they covered with fabric to make the belt, and I'm not taking a $40 belt apart to find out! it's fairly thick, smooth, and flexible, like craft foam, but it's clearly more sturdy than that.
3  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / What can I sell for around $5? on: February 12, 2004 03:11:39 PM
Hi, I am doing my first craft fair next month, selling notecards and felt flowers. My price point is $15 or so, but I know from many times being a customer at these things that cute little $5 items sell themselves.  Any ideas on something that I could whip up to sell in the paper or felt family? (I used to make marble magnets too, but I think they're on the outs a bit.) Even if I had 10 or so such items, I think it would effectively lure people to my table.
