Thanks so much! A trip to Jo-ann's is in order this weekend (we don't have Hancocks in the SF Bay Area, I don't think.)

What is this porcelain paint you speak of? I've never heard of it, but I have to experiment!

I love these and I agree that you should hang them as a collection of pieces. I've done encaustic paintings on tile before and I found epoxy (the stuff that you mix from two solutions) works the best for attaching saw-tooth hangers on the back.

Awesome job! I love how you are wearing the dress to your installation event. No one had to say, "Are you the artist?"

I'm so glad that you posted this thread because I have been wanting to add some flowers to a dress that I am making and I was thinking of using the acrylic felt that I have - but now I know better!  Do you think wool felt on a cotton jumper would look odd?

I think that would look great! Just because it's wool it doesn't have to be heavy and "woolly" it can be light and airy too!

Thanks Guys for your cool responses!

I'm going to try polar fleece and wool felt for future projects.

Hello, I took a black Gap skirt and put felt flowers on it with embroidered stems. I'm very pleased with it.

But I'm noticing that the felt is getting fuzzy and a bit ratty looking. I used acrylic felt. Does wool felt stand up better?

I splurged recently on one of these belts: http://www.maxsui.com/

Very cute, but they are $40 apiece! I am dying to try making another one myself, but I can't find the buckle they use. It's a flat buckle, with a bar in the middle but no prong; the fabric has enough traction to keep it closed without a prong. Every buckle I've seen online has prongs. I don't really want to go the d-ring route with this project.

I also can't figure out what is the substance they covered with fabric to make the belt, and I'm not taking a $40 belt apart to find out! it's fairly thick, smooth, and flexible, like craft foam, but it's clearly more sturdy than that.
10  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Re:diy flea markets and shows? on: February 13, 2004 01:21:26 PM
you can join the mailing lists for Appel and Frank: http://www.appelandfrank.com/

And Feria Urbana: http://www.feriaurbanasf.com/about.html

Both have monthly craft fairs in San Francisco which are a lot of fun. They both cost around $100 for a table. I'm doing the A&F one in March.

Fashion Co-op is mainly LA, but I think they sometimes do SF shows: http://www.fashioncoop.com/events.html
