1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How do you make a winter coat warm? on: November 11, 2009 08:05:19 AM
I bought plaid wool from a local flea market and taffeta lining. I want it to be legitimately warm, but how do I do this? I've been told to sew polar fleece inside to line it, but will it be that warm? I saw this stuff that is used for quilting called warm and natural. Would this be okay to line a coat with?

Thanks!
Rebecca

This is my 3rd attempt at the this pattern (McCalls 5531). I sure need a little practice with plaids.. haha. I made it for a local fashion show/contest called "Fashion is Art" back in November. I also showed other projects that I've sewn in the past.

the back looks the best haha

the front makes most people dizzy

my sister modeled it at Fashion is Art  Smiley
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Felt coat? on: January 08, 2009 09:30:11 AM
Hi! I've been wanting to make a nice coat, but I sure do not want to mess up the first time and waste expensive wool or some other sort of fabric. I always see awesome colors of felt on huge rolls at my local Jo-Ann's, and I was wondering if it would be weird to make a coat out of it? It looks similar to wool, but definitely is not wool haha. I know the elbows would probably get stretched out?

Thanks!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / citrus colored plaid high-waisted skirt on: August 04, 2008 07:33:46 PM
it matched the boogie boards at the beach! a lined, simple, gathered high-waist skirt complete with zipper Cheesy the fabric was from a pillow case that my gramma had made many years ago.

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / bright blue spring jacket w/ peterpan collar & fabric covered buttons! on: March 23, 2008 05:17:18 PM
this is my second time trying this pattern. it's mccall's m5531. i didn't line it this time because it's fleece on the inside. the sweat pant fleece material was a dollar a yard at wal-mart! i'm am very unhappy to say that my wal-mart got rid of it's fabric section. did this happy to all wal-marts? Huh anyway, here is my spring jacket!

deflated

inflated (compliments of the wind!)  Cheesy

i saw the preview for the hills from the corner of my eye.. i thought maybe i saw someone on there that had a coat with a bow on the back? maybe i'm imagining this.. i'll have to watch it to see. well, i was thinking of adding a de-tachable bow to the back!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / flowery pinafore inspired by Mooka Kinney on: March 03, 2008 06:43:06 PM
this was inspired by Mooka Kinney's designs! i made it in december, and i honestly forget how i made it. i think it's pretty much a high-waisted, gathered skirt with some criss-cross suspenders. complete with a zipper! Cheesy haha

front

i promise i'll post the picture of the back when photobucket wishes to cooperate  Undecided
