1  California / California: Central / Serger Lessons, Central Valley on: October 13, 2009 06:52:14 AM
I got a serger several months ago and I am having a heck of a time finding someone to give me a basic lesson in using it! (I bought it off amazon so I can't get lessons from where I purchased it...) Anyway, if you know of anyone who gives lessons near or within driving distance of the turlock/modesto area I would really appreciate it!
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Can anyone reccomend a good basic serger dvd? on: July 28, 2009 07:24:16 AM
I recently got a Brother 1034D serger and am having a helluva time figuring out how to use it. So far,  I can get it threaded... thats it. It jams up, so I'm not doing something right. I have a really hard time learning from a manual and I've watched the dvd that came with it 3 times now, but I can't see what the lady in the video is actually doing! I'm going to sign up for a class soon, but I would love to be able to figure out the basics on my own. Any suggestions?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Sundress Mania on: April 16, 2009 07:56:14 AM
Even though it is still pretty chilly outside, I couldn't wait to make some sundresses for my daughter. She's five and completely objects to wearing anything that is not twirly or ruffly. Smiley

I didn't really use a pattern on any of these, just a couple outgrown dresses that I cut up to use for a guide and then added inches where needed.
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Summery Stuff on: May 23, 2008 01:48:59 PM
I've been whipping up some breezy summer stuff for this hot weather (it was 105 degrees last weekend. Shocked)...

This material was in a box of old fabric from my best friend's grandmother, who passed away last year. It was actually a set of curtains, but I just love that orangey red color and had the perfect ribbon to go with it, so, wa-la its a shirt!

Ignore the bizarre drama queen pose, I was just trying to get an angle that didn't make me look huge! And I have a broken toe, hence the lovely splint. This dress is so comfy and I actually drafted the pattern myself. A few alterations later, I love it!

Yay for dollar fabric! I used the same pattern for this dress and tweaked the neckline a bit. I also did a contrasting gray and white floral fabric and fabric covered buttons.

Thanks for looking!
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Help! Anyone have a Brother VX 950? on: January 29, 2008 01:31:38 PM
My old machine gave up the ghost so my MIL loaned me hers until I can get a new one... its a lovely machine, but she can't find the instruction manual and I'm having no luck finding one online. Anyone have one they might be willing to let me make a copy of? Also, if you've used one any problems/tips or tricks I should know about? Grin
6  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Hooray! I Get to Post Here! on: January 13, 2008 04:12:21 PM
Here is my first ever attempt at quilting:

Made this for my dad for Christmas, it's made of blue fleece, old jeans and fabric found in my great grandma's old fabric stash. Score!

I started on this a couple days after I was finished with all the Christmas presents I'd been making for the past few months:

I ended up making matching curtains for it too. It's a bit wrinkly, but I love the fabrics in this!

I felt that NOT covering up this picture would somehow be deadly to humankind.
So I'm kind of like a hero.

I originally planned to add some bunnies, somewhere. I just couldn't do it.
8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Whats a Mama To Do? on: January 22, 2006 07:41:21 AM

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / A Mess on: December 03, 2005 08:19:31 PM
I had a good idea for christmas gifts for my female family members and good friends, little black purses with a picture on them (they were going to be pins or brooches, whatever you prefer). I've been working on them the last few days and I finished them (maybe.... Roll Eyes) this evening and they suck! I'm not giving those out, they will be shunned and absorbed into my organism of a craft space.
So, I have NO money, a bunch of fabric, pin backings & barrettes and a few weeks. Anyone have any good ideas for an easy to mass produce gift?
10  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / The BatMobile!! on: October 16, 2005 08:11:37 PM
I made Halloween Decorations with my kids today, this was one of our results...

I cut them out of leftover tin flashing and let the kids paint em... I thought they came out pretty nifty!

Couldn't resist... here's one of my son showing of his creation...
