this is adorable! how were you able to make it? did you like use an old pair of undies as the pattern? it sounds like thats what most people have done when making things like this
2  CLOTHING / Clothing Sewalongs / Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! on: January 12, 2009 08:02:04 PM
After years of searching for the perfect Anastasia (the 1998 animated movie) dress, I still haven't found one. And having wanted this dress as my senior prom dress for nearly 10 years now, I'm going to make it. I've found the pattern (Simplicity 4401) and I'm getting started on it soon. I'll post pictures as I go along!

i'm guessing you were talking about the blue one?
i have a link to someone who has made one before and their pictures.

the people at cosplay.com are usually very nice, so i bet she would answer any questions about it if you had any. hope it helps.

Post anything you wish to make for someone in need, or our soldiers overseas, or any other charities. I can't wait to make some new hats for caps for kids, and i really hope to see some amazing projects for the other charities out there!

i accually made a helena dress last year for halloween. i have to say, yours is pretty amazing and really accurate to the real thing (and i know how obnoxious it is to find good pics of it) so you did an amazing job!!  Grin

You could easily wear it for prom, Christmas, New Years anything festive.
My son is 17 and there girls wore dresses similar to their last semi formal (alot wore less tasteful dresses but we wont go there!)

I hope you are going into a field where design or clothing construction is a good part of the job. You executed the project very professionally. I made my senior prom dress- wayyyy back when and didn't do half as well as you did-maybe it was the spaghetti straps and the big hair that was the problem! lol

Great job, keep sewing!
Cealy

i'm accually planning on going to college next year for fashion design! so thank you!

Ab-so-lutely gorgeous! Grin What is the fabric? Is the gold embroidered on or is that an over layer?
the fabric was 3 yards of remnants (weird, i know) and the gold design was bought already embroidered on the fabric. it was originally $75 (so much! Shocked) but it was discounted to $35. i got real lucky on that one.

thank you everyone!!
just wanted to answer some of the questions, and i also have one for you.
it was a pattern, Mcalls 5001. the pattern did call for boning, so yes i did have boning in it. the skirt part was actually attached to the lining.
and for you guys!
i really do want to wear this again, but i dont know where or when. do you think this could be fitting for like, prom? what other fun occasion could i wear this?
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Brand new dress for a wedding on: September 17, 2008 04:43:32 PM
i haven't been to a wedding since I was about 12, and was super excited to go to my cousin's wedding a few weeks back. It also gave me a great opportunity to make a dress for the wedding. Without any other random chat, here is my dress. let me know what you think

needless to say, my family was impressed that a 17 year old made this, and i couldn't believe myself either.

and just for fun, a not so awesome picture of me and the family.

don't we look so happy?
