in the 'stitch and bitch nation' book, there is a scarf that i believe is called a cheat cable scarf, or something like that. well, i loved the idea of it, but already bought lion brand wool ease thick and quick for my christmas gift scarfs. what did i do? well i fixed up the pattern of course and loved the results of my even more cheatful cheat cable scarf. so i made one for a friend and this one i just finished for my grand mother, who is going to get it tonight. i thought she deserved one, she did teach me to knit after all..
merry christmas grandma!!

modeled by me. for those who want to know, the scarf itself is about 5 1/2 ft long.

and modeled by my floor.

and a better view of both sides. the back (left) is basically ribbed, but mines a bit wonkey for some reason. and the front is cabled. pretty amazing.
EDIT!!my grandmother loved it! and now i can continue to create one for myself, but first...
heres the tutorial. i am sorry if it is a bit confusing, but if you are confused, just let me know. ill answer any questions.
also note that this is the first tutorial i've ever made, so be kind.
materials-
size 13 US needles
yarn- lion brand wool ease (you will need 2)
gauge- 9st/4in
CO 13 st
row 1- K1, P2. repeat until one is left on the row, end K1
row 2- p1. heres where it gets confusing. K on the SECOND stitch on the left needle. don't move anything yet. then K on the FIRST stitch on the left needle. pull off those two stitches from the left needle. you should now have 3 st on your right needle. this is what makes your cable. if it helps, you are just making a cable stitch, but not taking any stitches off on a cable needle. after doing those first three stitches, repeat P, K second, K first, until one is left on the row, end P1
continue the row 1[back] and row 2[front] sequence until desired length, and voila! a beautiful new scarf.
