1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: crayon hearts make my dorm window oh so pretty on: January 15, 2005 09:21:43 AM
Possible stupid question but when the sun hits them and it gwts hot will they get disformed?

not to worry! i've had a dozen or so of these hearts hanging in my livingroom window, which is about 2" away from the sun in the summertime, for a year now. (i made them last valentine's day, and liked them so much i never took them down.) they haven't melted/faded/disformed at all.

this is adorable! i've used artwork to pretty up the face of cheapo battery-operated wall clocks, but i never thought of using a photo on an alarm clock. i love it! good job!

i had friends who used the side of the fridge as a giant dry-erase board; it looked (and worked) great! they used it for family notes, doodles, grocery lists, messages, etc.

alcohol is perfect for removing the ink (as posted above) and yes, even takes off permanent marker.

the ones i have are quite steady when sitting on the lid (so the dome is the "top").

i wish i had the stuff i need to make some snowglobes NOW, in honor of the big storm we're just digging out from under...i know i need glycerine to add to the water, and of course, i don't have any. i've also read you can use clear corn syrup instead, but naturally, i don't have any of that either. i wonder what else i could use...?

i've been making these for about 10 years now, and they're GREAT! really easy, inexpensive, yummy, and impressive looking, esp. if you package them in those holiday-themed cellophane bags (which you can get at the dollar store.)

i think these would make adorable tiny little snowglobes. i have some saved for exactly that, but haven't gotten around to actually making any yet.

those are fabulous! after seeing yours,  i want to make something similar (the possibilities are endless!) but i don't have any vellum...

however, i remembered that just this morning i threw out a huge, clear plastic lid from a purchased cheesecake, so i'm going to fish it out of the garbage, wash it, and cut it up to use instead! (funny, before i threw it away, i stood there looking at it, thinking, "surely there's something i can do with this!" glad i found this post before it made it all the way to the curb!)

8  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re:Ziploc Bags on: March 25, 2004 12:06:33 AM
at work tonight, one of the kids ripped the zipper off and wore it as a headband. might not work if you don't have a child-sized head, though... Wink

what a great idea, and it looks fantastic!

i got a bunch of old cards i've bought at yard sales, etc, some from the 60s, some from casinos in vegas, some just regular ol' cards (which are still cool!) i'd love to do something like this, but i can already see my cats thinking it was a giant cat toy, with all the yarn...did someone mention jump rings?

oh, oh, oh...postcards would be cool, too! (i also happen to have a zillion of those...i'm a sucker for paper!)

dorion, that's GREAT! glenn is very much the same with his fans, very accessible & friendly, always makes it a point to come out after the show to visit with his fans, smile for pics, etc. (my gf even has his autograph tattooed on her arm, but that's another story!)

now i'm thinking i might want to make him a juju doll for his next tour...i'm imagining all sorts of possibilities! my sewing abilities leave a LOT to be desired, but surely i could manage this.  Huh i actually like them at the size they're showing up on your post, but i suppose it would be more difficult to make them that tiny?

thanks again for sharing your brilliant idea. Smiley  (and thanks for posting the pic of you & teller; in ALL our pics of us w/ glenn we look like we've got terminal grins!) Grin
