1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Denim Rag Purse on: August 15, 2010 06:39:10 AM
This is a denim rag purse I made recently.  I assembled it using these instructions: http://www.quiltmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/quilt73balibag.pdf.  I modified the Bali Bag pattern by assembling it "rag quilt" style using recycled blue jeans.  The handles are braided inseams that I clipped from the jeans.  Embellishments include the studs at the center of each block and the rose I made from a recycled zipper.  A magnetic snap serves as the closure.  Thanks for letting me share!

2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Machine Needles Questions on: December 04, 2008 05:09:11 AM
I have been sewing for many years, but I've never been able to come up with a good resolution to the following issues:

  • How do you remember what size/type of needle is in your sewing machine; and
  • How do you dispose of your broken/spent needles?

I have tried to remind myself of the needle size/type by writing on a piece of paper (which I always lose).  I've also tried writing on a piece of masking tape and attaching it to the front of the machine (looks tacky and leaves a sticky residue).

I recently have thought of trying to use a dry erase marker, but I'm chicken to write on my machine.  Possibly I could create a cute laminated paper tag of some sort, attach it to the machine and use a dry erase marker.

As far as disposal of the needles, I have saved them, and I have tossed them (which makes me feel incredibly guilty).

I appreciate your input.  TIA.
3  COOKING / Dessert / 16th Birthday Cupcake Cake on: October 06, 2008 12:34:50 PM
My daughter is celebrating her 16th birthday this week.  We had a party for her Saturday night, and this is the cake I made for her.  It was easy and fun to do.

4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Spring Form Pan Question on: September 30, 2008 10:23:50 AM
Is it possible to use a spring form cake pan for regular cake?  Maybe line the bottom of it with wax paper to keep the batter from leaking?  Have any of you tried this?
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Can we offer supplies? on: August 05, 2008 05:56:38 AM
I have an abundance of a certain supply needed for a project I saw recently.  I am happy to share it with folks, but I think postage reimbursement is appropriate.  Is it all right to post a link in that topic and say, "I have such and such and would be willing to give it to you in exchange for postage?"  Of course, I will not charge "handling."   Wink

Thanks!
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Copper wire used by electricians on: April 17, 2008 04:47:40 AM
I hope I'm asking this in the right place.  We are having our basement wired, and there are many bits of copper wiring lying around that are going into the trash.  Being a crafter, I am trying to think of uses for the wire, but I know copper tarnishes.  Is there a way to treat the copper prior to crafting with it?  Thanks in advance for your help.
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Sneaker Slippers on: March 12, 2008 07:29:19 PM
I recently made these for the slipper swap.  My partner, DisneyFan, is also a runner.  I found this pattern and thought it would be fun to make them.  I will admit, it was a bit of a challenge.  I don't concentrate as well as I once did, and there is A LOT of counting in this pattern.  (In case you're wondering, they're stuffed with tissue paper to help maintain their shape during shipping.)

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Some notecards for swap (includes iris folding) on: March 12, 2008 07:24:35 PM
Here are some notecards I made to include as extras in the slipper swap.  I recently discovered how to iris fold, so I was excited to exercise this new skill.  The most difficult part of iris folding (for me) is selecting the papers.  I am the world's worst decision maker!
