How about portfolios for legal pads or composition books?  The buckles, tag, etc. would make great embellishments.

They also make nice mini sewing kits to give as gifts or carry in your purse or bag.

Like Jennerlou-hoo, I use old candle pieces to make fire starters.  I take an old paper egg carton (must be paper) and stuff each cup with dryer lint.  I then melt down my candles in a "double boiler" (i.e., old coffee can sitting in a pot of boiling water -- spout made by bending the can a bit).  Pour the melted wax over the lint until each cup is full.  Once the wax is dry, cut apart the cups.  One cup is all you need to start a fire.  They work great.

Your first project?  Wow!  My first sewing project looked nothing like that.  Of course, I was 10, and it was an oven mitt, but still ...  Keep up the good work, and congratulations on the studio.

For a beginning sewer (I hate that "sewer" looks like "soo-er"), I think you did an excellent job.  Keep up the great work.  It's a very cute purse.

queenofdiy, you did an amazing job on your cosmetic bags!  They are way too pretty for make-up.  You could add a wrist strap and use them for evening bags.  So cute.

About sewing the lining in by machine -- could you put the lining in just as if you were going to handstitch and then stitch carefully along the line of stitching on the zipper (or even use a decorative stitch or zigzag in a complementary color)?  I haven't sat down at the machine and actually tried this, but in my feeble mind it seems as if it may work.  Using a free-arm machine would make doing this much easier.  Just a thought.
