1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Blank walls are bad for the soul swap? on: March 06, 2006 07:50:38 PM
Ooh - I'm really excited that people are interested in this swap idea.  I'm willing to try my hand at organizing, but it will have to wait until after spring break as I won't have internet access.  Does anyone have any preference on dates?  Crafting time frame?  What sorts of questions should be on the questionaire?
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Blank walls are bad for the soul swap? on: February 18, 2006 08:26:05 PM
I've been thinking about this for a while now and I'm posting it now because of two reasons:

1.  I've just received some awesome original artwork to decorate my office, and now I'm hooked.

2.  I've noticed a lot of people putting requests for art work on their wish lists for various swaps.

Would anyone be interested in swapping wall decor?  Mixed media art, collage, paintings, photography, fabric hangings, etc.  Pretty much anything that would make a blank wall less depressing.

I received the absolute best notecards in the mail from Pretendpeterpan!  I requested notecards based on the band The Weakerthans, and what I received are so perfect.

This one says: "The night's a spill, a permanent stain; the city soaks in silence, salt, and dirty snow" from the song "Wellington's Wednesdays."

"I trace your outline in spilled sugar, killing time and killing hope" from "None of the Above"

"We must never stop watching the sky with our hands in our pockets" from "Sounds Familiar"

And finally "I have a story that I'd like to tell you, it's littered with settings and second takes" from "Diagnosis"

All of the cards are more like mini works of art and I love them so much.  Thanks again, Pretendpeterpan!

I received an excellent painting based on the cover of The Little Prince for my office from raindrops!  I will post a picture of it in its new home after I hang it one Friday.  It will have to wait until then because I'm not going anywhere near campus tomorrow for anything.

Thanks again!!! Grin

I received my wrist warmers from redpopsicles in the mail today.  They are a most excellent green... My lights are very yellow so the color is all wrong in the kind of poor quality photo I was able to take.  But I wanted to show off anyway.  Here's the left one - the right one looks the same.  Unfortunately, I can't take a no-handed photo  Wink

They will come in mighty handy.  Thanks again, redpopsicles!
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Kickin it old school Craftster style: Mix tape swap Gallery! on: February 02, 2006 06:56:53 PM
Aha - I've temporarily overcome my camera difficulties and have a photo of the packaging from my two mix tapes to show off...

The one on the left is from onecraftybitch and the one on the right is from semicharm86.  Thanks again to you both!

Also, has anyone received from me?  I'm starting to worry that someone  in the post office is listening to some fun new mixes in his/her car...
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing Wish Swap Round 4 on: February 02, 2006 06:50:01 PM
Here's the final score.  Me: 1, Camera:7.  Even though I've been handily trounced by an inanimate object, I've finally managed to get photos (albeit a bit blurry ones) of the wonderful things I received from this swap.

First, here is the hand-painted sheep flower pot that Lv2ScrpBk sent me.  It came with a sheep stamp and a few other goodies, including some fun notecards (and some candy Wink).  Thanks again!  I use the sheep pot in my office to hold candy...

And then here is what I received from seaofstars.  I would have loved to do an in-action shot, but since I live alone and my camera hates me, I finally settled on having my most beloved stuffed animal from when I was little, Blue Kitty, model it for me.  It's a beautiful green scarf and I love it... I'm particularly impressed that seaofstars was new at this craft; she claimed there were flaws, but I have my doubts - it looks good to me!

Then, she also included a fun zipper pouch, which is the perfect size for keeping my essentials from getting lost in the depths of my bookbags.  The photo is really shady, but the fabric is a lot of fun - exactly what I would have selected.

Thanks again to the two of you!!  Sorry it took me so long to get these photos up.
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Ongoing wish swap 3 on: February 02, 2006 06:37:47 PM
Okay, after a long, drawn out struggle with my camera, I finally have managed to catch up with photos for my last swaps...

Here is the excellent set of coasters that starpiste sent me.  They're absolutely brilliant and I love them!!!  I know I'm late, but I wanted to show them off anyway.  Thanks again starpiste! Grin

And here is my robot lamp modeling it's scarf and hat and holding one of the pins I received from blueblythe (my lamp is such a ham).  Thanks!

I've got your BULLSHIRT, michellecooley because I think it's hilarious.

This is my second pick and I'm in Washington state.

My wishes:

- I'm addicted to 1" buttons/badges.  I wear a lot of jackets/sweaters for my job, and my students love seeing what buttons I pair with each outfit.  I'd love some fun new ones to show off.  I received some in various swaps, but the beauty of addiction is that you can never have enough...

- I'd like some fun notecards based on/using quotes from the band The Weakerthans because I think they have the best lyrics.  They don't need to be holiday specific - I prefer random cards.  Just something quirky.  You can go to their website: theweakerthans.org to get the official lyrics. THANKS pretendpeterpan!!! Grin

- I'm in the market for a some necklaces, either in blue or black and white.  Since I wear predominantly button down shirts, I'd like the length to be between 14 and 18" or else no one will be able to see it.  I'm not picky about style, though I prefer chunky to delicate, especially because Im pretty rough on jewelry.  And gold looks terrible against my skin tone, so silver connectors would be best.

- Im very jealous of the fingerless gloves/wrist warmers.  They would come in handy for all of those late night paper writing sessions its very cold at 4 in the morning when your body is being fueled entirely on coffee.  Nothing terribly heavy or fancy solid color (green and/or black would be excellent) MANY THANKS redpopsicles!  Grin

- I would love some artwork for my office walls.  The only thing is it would have to be square or rectangular because Im keeping with right angles in my decorating.  Or something like a book clock because Im in the market for a square clock.  I like quirky things, but not cutesy things no flowers or hearts or anything like that.  Ideally, it would include text in some way because I think text is aesthetically pleasing.

- I love stenciling for other people, but I have a harder time doing it for myself.  Id like a shirt or a cute tote bag (big and strong enough to carry a few books) with a stencil on it.  I am largely open to anything, but if someone would like more direction, there are a number of directions I could point you Sizes, colors, etc.

- My big ticket wish would be an a-line skirt.  Being a TA is a double edged sword because they make you dress professionally but they don't pay you well enough to afford professional dress.  Silly grad school.

- If nothing else, surprises are always fun to get in the mail.  Whatever is your specialty, I'd love to see it.

I'm sure I can come up with more ideas if need be.

Thanks for looking!

About me: I'm a 24-year-old English grad student.  I wear mostly black and greens that are not forest green.  I think the platypus is absolutely hilarious.  I use crafting as a means of procrastination because although I love studying literature, I hate writing papers.  Any questions, let me know!

I'll claim PinkMafia's stenciled t-shirt.  I have a couple ideas of what I might do...
