Who knows anything about iron on transfers? lol

I am making this shirt.. I took a yellow shirt(the exact same as the blue on in the first picture.. and turned it into the second picture.. I still have to transfer another image to the back  and also added the inserted different colour collar(yesi  know the stitchin shows.. lol i like it! hehe) and am added more of the red around the sleeves..

Anyway..
My question is about Iron ons.. How long do you iron for?? I had quite a few problems with this one.. which wasnt bad because I like the cracky look. But is it ever too long? I found it was really sticky and hard to pull off, and some of the color was left on the paper.. not much just a bit..

Do I let it cool before I take the paper off or pull it off immed? Thanks!

So I am new to the whole t-shirt thing.. Mostly do journals/altered books, etc.. but have taken an old yellow shirt, sewed it to fit better, added a few things and was putting the transfer on the front using an inkjet printed transfer paper...

Now.. What is the actual process here?(no i dont have the instructions unfortunately..

How long do I iron it for? and also do I let it cool before I pull it off or take it off right away?

This one didnt work out completely as planned, but I kind of like it cracky/distressed looking.. I have to finish the sleeves, and then put the other transfer on the back and I will post a picture!
