1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / increasing size of a pattern.. how to?! on: September 10, 2005 05:16:47 PM
ok i suck at this.. i know! haha

but i found this beautiful dress pattern today at the second hand store.. actually I found 3 different ones. one is a circle skirt of sorts, but it is the right size.. but the best one.. the one I realllllly want is a dress(sorry cant find a picture of it!)
it's about knee length, circle skirt type bottom, with low sharp vneck that also comes to an upside down v right underneath your bust.. ok i cant explain well.. but anyway.
it's for a size 14, and is a few sizes too small.. how do i go about changing it? any idea?

thanks!

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Look for a salwar kameez pattern.. anyone? on: September 09, 2005 11:37:35 PM
H all,
have a function to go to where I have been asked to wear a salwar kameez, i would love to make one, but don't have any ideas..(probably should since I lived with an Indian family for a year, and have Indian relatives.. but hey.. it takes me a while to catch on..haha)

It doesn't seem that it would be that hard, the pants, do they have have a zipper? buttons? or just pull on? If pull on, are they elastic or tie?? The top i think I can do, or can get my mom to explain to me, but I dont know what the pants should be made of..

and what kinds of material? The top i know is lined, but are the pants lined too? Do I use the same lining and outer fabric for both?

yikes..
any direction would be great!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / My New Room! yay on: September 05, 2005 07:26:54 PM
Ignore all the weird stripes and such on the photos, i dont know what happened.. but the paint doesnt look like that! lol

Well since I am home from my two years of travelling, and, well after two years of travel volunteering I don'thave enough money to rent a place, I am stuck at home with the folks, and commuting.. so I decided in order to survive I must have a new room ;p

Plus, all my new souvenirs and things from Africa needed somewhere to fit in! Theres some stuff I didn't get photos of, my art wall, that has a few paintings, prints, photographs, etc. i also didnt get a close up of my mask.. and the table wasnt in the room yet.. anyway..

The writing is Arabic for Freedom. This cupboard was always in my room but used to be green/blue with stars/moons.. We painted it pale yellow and then used th color of the walls to sponge on top of it..the painting i bought while in St. Maarten.

Above the door is my batik wall hanging. The door was a poem written by a Ghanaian artist.

my photos, new chair and my drum..

The best part is the cork board and you can hardly see it! I took an old fuzzy/sparkly red sweater that was hideous(one of those sweaters that makes even an 80lb girl look fat) and used double sided tape to hold it on, and then pushed the edges under the  edges.. sooo amazing!(the corkobard was peeling and ugly, so it was on its way to the trash)

for some reason, the best parts are hidden or i didn't take a picture of them! Sad but i love it.. and the colour names(foro some reason i love colour names!) were very fitting... "djembe" & "flamenco red"
4  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Looking for old ties-crafting for charity! on: September 02, 2005 11:18:48 PM
Hi Guys!

If anyone can help me out this would be great.. I have started making a few bags to sell at the smaller shows(we go to some big shows  with our art, but jury process does not work with charity art,etc.. anyway) along with a compilation CD i am in the works of making, but am still getting confirmation and permission for the artists.
All proceeds from the CD and some proceeds from the bag(minus mostly overhead & costs) will be given directly to three charities in Ghana(west africa) specifically in a very rural and poor area in the north, called Bolgatanga(or Bolga). The three charities are the Anglican Mother and Baby Home(an orphanage, where I used to work) as well as an organization called Rural Help Integrated(www.ruralhelp.org) that focuses on training traditional birth attendants and midwives in safe medical practices, as well as counselling for those clients who they recognize might be in need of it,etc.. He is a doctor who has worked and written f or the UNFPA, Dr. Kwasi Odoi-Agyarko.

And lastly, Maata 'n' tudu, ("Women of the North'-translated.. ) it is a micro-credit organization, thta is completely self reliant and  self sustaining. Incredibly strong women..

Anyway. I am looking for as many neckties(not making necktie bags, but using them..) and also looking for as many pins(anything with writing/logo,etc..etc..NOT pushpins!) as I can.. PLEASE

IF YOU CAN help email or pm me for an address, if you are in the ottawa area i can pick up.. if you can send me more than 10 ties ill send you a free bag,(would send CD's as well, but I don't have all the  copyright permission yet! sorry!)

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / back to school hellllll......llllla cool! ;p [IMAGE HVY] on: August 24, 2005 05:54:56 PM
ok so.. back to college after three years of fundom! Three wonderful, blissful years of stars, and backpacks, and airplanes, and oceans and mud hut homes, an little brothers and HOT boyfriends ;p and now back to finish college in my dinky little place(two-thousand people in this big city..ahahaha)

so i decided in order to dedicate my school to the people i have loved and lived with for the last 3 years i would decorate my binders.. from past experience with pictures getting completey sucky after a few weeks/months, and since we have a new laminator(ooooh... aaaaahhh) i made laminated pages, and then double sided taped them to my binders..

i'm in the process of doing a third but not pictures, just vintage/antique ads, book pages, stamps,etc..
two binders, each sde is covered..

so on binder 1(the first two pics) is from this past year..
and binder 2(third and last pics) are from the year before..

I blurred the closeups on the first two, and my address on the second.. lol.. and if you're wondering who i am.. i am the girl on the left in the B&W in the last picture(thats with my momma!)

Edited to add;
and the really hot topless guy in the star is my ex.. mmmmmhmm (ex because of location.. me- canada he-africa,, kind of ridiculous..lol)
8  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / weaving fabric.. question!?! on: August 23, 2005 02:54:37 PM
ok.. so i was inspired somewhat by a piece of art i had seen a friend doing recently.. now..

i understand the weaving concept, but how do i make it look like its little pieces all tied together.. do i sew them (not at the end, but somehow in the middle of each strip) to make one long piece of fabric so I can weave it together and still have the ends sticking out everywhere, or whta is the best way!? its hard for me to explain what i am talking about.. but i will try and find a photo!
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / ok.. I NEED help with a journal iea! on: August 22, 2005 08:59:47 PM
Ok.. so the quick synopsis is that I am attendin a bridal shower for a friend who I haven't spoken to/seen in about 5 years.. We are 20-21. I do not know her fiance, and I really don't know what she is like now at all.

I make journals, bt they are not "fancy" and I am looking to make a albm that could be used for guest book, photos, whatever. They also just discovered(3 months after they began planning the wedding!) that they were pregnant, lol so they could use it for that too.. anyway...

I want to make an album that is longer than it is high(think a piece of paper on its side.. kind of.. and the cover will be sewn, but I have NO IDEA how to bind.. I know coptic stitching, but thts it, any links, or ideas where I can find out other info(we have no library or bookstores where i am! so net is preferable) also..

I know how to(sort of) make a cloth cover.. but how do I make it poofy? does anyone know what I am talking about? lol.. any ideas?

thanks!

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Bridal Shower gift for a long-lost friend!?!!? on: August 22, 2005 09:12:29 AM
Ok.. so a friend of mine is getting married, I haven't seen her in two years, but we were best friends for the first 15 years of our life(we are 20/21 now). I think she is having a few bridal showers, but this one is local for her family(mother) and friends who live here.. ANYWAY..

lol
I don't know the man she is marrying, so thats hard, I don't even know her well anymore! Can't be anything too sexy, as it will be a while before she uses it.. about 3 months after she started planning her wedding, she found out she was preggers! hehe I guess they want her to deal with everything at once! yikes..

I am thinking(I won't be at the wedding, so I want to give her seomthing nice, to remember me by) of doing a wedding album, or scrapbook of sorts.. but no idea where to look for tutes. on making one..

The journals I make aren't nice enough looking for it(ie. spiral bindings, and our covers are not handmade so  I ont know how to do that)

The idea I am having is one that is longer than it is high... (think a piece of paper on its side.. though a bit bigger i tink) with a hard fabric cover.. I like the fabric covers that are abit puffy(does that make sense?) haha

ANYWAY! That was just the first thing I thought of.. ANY ideas?!!?!?!?!?
