1  My New Room! yay in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by bkqueen on: September 05, 2005 07:26:54 PM
Ignore all the weird stripes and such on the photos, i dont know what happened.. but the paint doesnt look like that! lol

Well since I am home from my two years of travelling, and, well after two years of travel volunteering I don'thave enough money to rent a place, I am stuck at home with the folks, and commuting.. so I decided in order to survive I must have a new room ;p

Plus, all my new souvenirs and things from Africa needed somewhere to fit in! Theres some stuff I didn't get photos of, my art wall, that has a few paintings, prints, photographs, etc. i also didnt get a close up of my mask.. and the table wasnt in the room yet.. anyway..

The writing is Arabic for Freedom. This cupboard was always in my room but used to be green/blue with stars/moons.. We painted it pale yellow and then used th color of the walls to sponge on top of it..the painting i bought while in St. Maarten.

Above the door is my batik wall hanging. The door was a poem written by a Ghanaian artist.

my photos, new chair and my drum..

The best part is the cork board and you can hardly see it! I took an old fuzzy/sparkly red sweater that was hideous(one of those sweaters that makes even an 80lb girl look fat) and used double sided tape to hold it on, and then pushed the edges under the  edges.. sooo amazing!(the corkobard was peeling and ugly, so it was on its way to the trash)

for some reason, the best parts are hidden or i didn't take a picture of them! Sad but i love it.. and the colour names(foro some reason i love colour names!) were very fitting... "djembe" & "flamenco red"

2  Re: Suit jacket Bag with tie strap, including tutorial! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by bkqueen on: September 02, 2005 09:10:50 PM
so can SOMEONE explain the collar part to me? I understand what part of the collar it is an everything, I just dont know how to attach it.. Is it atached so it is coming out between the lining like the tie? or is it just sewn right sides together at the back so that it folds over to the front?Huh ANYONE!?!

I made this one without, and I rather like it.. We had a lot of old jackets from an old parade but this one didnt ahve a collar so i didnt have to worry! The material was great, it had some sort of design(see pictures!) the inside looks like a plain white, but has a neat diamond stitching(there was an old shirt factory here in the 80's and my grandmother used to buy their scraps.. i loved this fabric but couldnt find anything for it until now..
AND... I made it all without ahving to redo it! wooohoo

I'm not the greatest when it comes to straight top stitching, etc. but getting better..(as you can see the thread i used is not the right color.. but i like that and it's for me.. but i covered the square stitching on the tie with an old 80's toronto pin! ignore the horribly unflattering dress i am wearing.. an the MGD bottle... lol

Edited because i didnt realize these pics would be so huge! ok now they should be better!

3  back to school hellllll......llllla cool! ;p [IMAGE HVY] in Completed Projects by bkqueen on: August 24, 2005 05:54:56 PM
ok so.. back to college after three years of fundom! Three wonderful, blissful years of stars, and backpacks, and airplanes, and oceans and mud hut homes, an little brothers and HOT boyfriends ;p and now back to finish college in my dinky little place(two-thousand people in this big city..ahahaha)

so i decided in order to dedicate my school to the people i have loved and lived with for the last 3 years i would decorate my binders.. from past experience with pictures getting completey sucky after a few weeks/months, and since we have a new laminator(ooooh... aaaaahhh) i made laminated pages, and then double sided taped them to my binders..

i'm in the process of doing a third but not pictures, just vintage/antique ads, book pages, stamps,etc..
two binders, each sde is covered..

so on binder 1(the first two pics) is from this past year..
and binder 2(third and last pics) are from the year before..

I blurred the closeups on the first two, and my address on the second.. lol.. and if you're wondering who i am.. i am the girl on the left in the B&W in the last picture(thats with my momma!)

Edited to add;
and the really hot topless guy in the star is my ex.. mmmmmhmm (ex because of location.. me- canada he-africa,, kind of ridiculous..lol)

4  Re: EASY reversible SWING bag! (with rookie tutorial) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by bkqueen on: August 15, 2005 07:37:48 PM
still wondering about topstitching.. i suck at it! Sad

but heres my completed one! i made the patch messy on purpose!(lol!)

the outside fabric is almost like cordery, but not.. its much softer, but very thick.. i found it in the trunk at my grandmothers house! lol but sadly this one is a gift, and I have fallen in love with the fabric and don't have any more!

the inside fabric(the eyes) is from Ghana(west Africa) the fabric there is so beautiful, but my favourite was "eye" fabric, so when I left to come home, my sister gave me about 6yards of it.. this bag is for an internet(email) friend who is going there with the peace corps.. wanted her to have a little bit of Africa to take with her..

5  My first shirt! wow go me ;p haha in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by bkqueen on: August 10, 2005 09:37:59 PM

ok.. so
Who knows anything about iron on transfers? lol

I am making this shirt.. I took a yellow shirt(the exact same as the blue on in the first picture.. and turned it into the second picture.. I still have to transfer another image to the back  and also added the inserted different colour collar(yesi  know the stitchin shows.. lol i like it! hehe) and am added more of the red around the sleeves..

Anyway..
My question is about Iron ons.. How long do you iron for?? I had quite a few problems with this one.. which wasnt bad because I like the cracky look. But is it ever too long? I found it was really sticky and hard to pull off, and some of the color was left on the paper.. not much just a bit..

Do I let it cool before I take the paper off or pull it off immed? Thanks!
