1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Kit on: January 01, 2006 04:54:05 PM
I just got a new sewing machine for Christmas. I was wondering what things are essential for a good sewing kit. I will mainly be using the machine to make things like pillows, bags, purses, stuffed toys, etc.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / World Valentine theme on: January 01, 2006 04:47:13 PM
I saw another thread on here somewhere a while back about someone getting a little globe and making a "You are my world" theme for Valentines Day. I want to do something like that, because my boyfriend likes globes and old maps and such.
Some of the ideas I have so far are to:

Make http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=j00284 this but use pictures of old world maps to decorate it
Get a globe (or make one if I can't find one for cheap) and on the base write somehow either "you are my world" or "you mean the world to me" or something to that effect

But... that's as far as my ideas go. Any others? Also, anyone know where I can get a cheap globe or know of any map or globe related fabric I can get (I just got a new sewing machine for Christmas so I figured maybe I could do a pillow or something)

I thought i'd start now while I'm motivated, cause.. otherwise.. I'll probably put it off.
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Candy themed reception on: December 30, 2005 05:13:46 PM
My sister is getting married in April, and she's decided on a candy/sweets theme for her reception. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for centerpieces, favors, decorations, or refreshments that would go well with her theme.
Also, she is having cupcakes, so she wants a fake cake so she can have a bride and groom topper, so any ideas on how to make those?
4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Making candy on: October 03, 2005 03:04:25 PM
I am planning on purchasing a guitar shaped candy mold to make chocolate shaped guitars for my boyfriend for his birthday. i was curious, for those who have made similar things before.. what kind of chocolate do you use? do you use the chocolate you can buy at the craft stores or do you buy a certain kind from a grocery store? i have no idea what tastes good, because I don't like chocolate. thanks in advance!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gift for a self proclaimed nerd girl on: August 09, 2005 02:51:49 PM
I have a friend and she has been out of town during Christmas and her birthday this year and therefore I never really got around to giving her gifts. So I want to give her some kind of gift now (As in, the next couple of weeks) she is an 18 year old girl (not a very girly girl, though) and loves the following things:
The Beatles/John Lennon
Kevin Spacey
Star Wars
Jimmy Eat World

Here are the stipulations:
I am broke. Materials for crafts would have to be relatively inexpensive. In addition to making gifts, I might pick up a few things at a dollar store or thrift store that I think she'd like.
