I'm from the Canton area and I was wondering if there are other crafty folks in the Canton/Akron/Cleveland and Surrounding Areas that would like to participate in a sweat shop type or sampler type swap.
Here's what I had in mind:
* Craft x number of items (x depends on the number of participants) * Meet up for lunch (or tea, or dinner, or drinks), and exchange your crafted items with everyone in the group
I just thought it'll be cool to meet all the talented crafters in this area. Any takers?
Swap name: Ongoing Fabric Swap II Craftster member who is organizing this swap: loves2experiment Sign-up date range: Ongoing Date to send items by: Seven (7) days after someone claims from your list! Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Nope. The more the merrier! Non-U.S. participants allowed? Absolutely! All ages allowed? Yes (Parental consent required for those under 16!) Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: Yes, and Yes!
DETAILS OF SWAP:
If you’ve got stashes of fabric hidden in your craft boxes, this is the swap for you
For each claim, you will get to select a total of 1/2 yard of fabric (in the form of two (2) fat quarters OR a half yard piece). In return, you will then be required to make a post with a minimum of eight fabric swatches that you have available for someone else to claim.
Ready to play? Please read the following sections on 'HOW TO PLAY' and 'RULES' for this swap before signing up to get approved for this swap!
HOW TO PLAY:
Step 1. Send in your answers to the swap questionnaire to get approved for this swap
Step 2. Prepare your lists of fabric swatches so that you’ll be ready to post the list when you make a claim! You’ll need a minimum of eight fabric swatches!!! Along with the pictures, you should describe the type and clearly specify the quantity of fabric that you’re offering! For example:
1. Brown and Turquoise Cotton Batik. 1/2 Yard Piece. 2. Lime Green Silk. Fat Quarter. 3. Purple Cotton/Polyester Blend. Fat Quarter or 1/2 Yard Piece. 4. Fun Fur Type Fabric. Fat Quarter. 5. Silver Vinyl. Fat Quarter. 6. Vintage Japanese Kimono. Fat Quarter. 7. Pink Cotton Flannel. 1/2 Yard Piece. 8. Yellow Wool Felt. Fat Quarter or 1/2 Yard Piece.
Step 3. Watch the swap thread for something you’ll like to claim. To claim, post a reply along the lines of “I claim swatches #2 and 6 from love2experiment’s stash”. Follow-up by sending a pm to the person you chose from. Let her know what you’ve selected and provide her with your name and mailing address.
Step 4. Now that you’ve made a claim, it’s your turn to post your list of fabric swatches! If the thread idles for a couple of hours…or days, please take the initiative to add more selections to your list! When someone chooses from your list, you have seven (7) days to get the swap package out the door!
Step 5. If you have not maxed out on the number of claims you have been approved for, you may keep on claiming. If you have reached your limit, you will not be able to make another claim until one of your partners has received a swap package from you.
RULES:
1. You may not participate in this swap until you have been pre-approved by the swap organizer. Please wait until you’re listed on the “List of Approved Swappers” before making a claim! If you’re watching this swap thread and thinking about participating, you’re more than welcome to pm me to get pre-approved. By doing so, you’ll be ready to make a claim when you see something you like
2. If you participated in the Ongoing Fabric Swap, please make sure that you’ve sent out all your packages for that swap (i.e. the packages should either have been received by your partners or are on their way to your partners) before signing up for the Ongoing Fabric Swap II.
3. You must have ready access to a camera and know how to post pictures in the swap thread. Please make sure you have your list (either links or pictures) of fabrics available when you start swapping! You will need to have a minimum of eight fabric swatches in your posts. If you’re posting pictures, please make sure that you showcase pictures in groups of 4s (i.e. post 2 images, if you have 8 fabric swatches). You may also choose the option of posting links to your fabric swatches. If you do that, please make sure that your links work!
4. All participants must be willing to ship to international destinations. Since we’re only sending a total of 1/2 yard of fabric, shipping costs should be pretty reasonable.
5. After a claim has been made, you have seven (7) days to mail your package! Check out the second post of this swap thread to get an idea of when your swap packages are due.
6. Delivery Confirmation Numbers will be required for swap packages that are being sent within the United States. I'm will be pretty firm about this rule! If you’re sending a package to another country, or if you don’t reside in the United States, please save your receipts! Remember to send the DCN info to your swap partner(s) and the organizer (that would be me, loves2experiment)!
Shipping Tip For US Residents (courtesy of kategirl): The USPS requires that the package measures at least ¾” thick for a DCN. If your package is too flat, it might be necessary to bulk up the package with a couple of plastic grocery bags to get the DCN!
7. It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer. When you have received, you must inform your partner and the organizer!! If you are late, you need to pm your partner and the swap organizer ASAP. You are still responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner! A blatant disregard for deadlines will result in a "sent late" comment in your swap profile.
8. Okay. This is not really a rule, but rather a request. Please be considerate and offer fabric selections that others would want to claim. Try to include a variety of fabrics in your lists (e.g. not ALL vintage fabric, because some people like vintage fabric, while others don’t). It’s common sense, really! Another good rule of thumb to follow is this: If you're offering a piece of fabric to "simply get rid of it", that's probably not a good thing!!
If you want to participate, send the following information to the organizer:
QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

Edit: There have been questions about what types of fabrics are acceptable. I have posted a comment here. There is really no hard or fast rule for this. Some people like vintage fabric, and others don't. It would be easy enough to make the rule that all fabric pieces have to be NEW. I won't do that. Instead, I ask that all swap participants be considerate and offer fabric selections that others would want to claim. Make sure that you're offering a variety (i.e. not ALL vintage pieces). Another good rule of thumb to follow is this: If you're offering a piece of fabric to "simply get rid of it", it's probably not a good thing!!

I love fabric...and I'm pretty sure that there are others who share my addiction (I'm not naming any names here...)!!
Anyhow, I wanted to find out if there is sufficient interest to do an ongoing type fabric swap, based loosely on the swap style used in "Ongoing Things I Can Make" swaps.
Here's what I was thinking. The first person showcases 10 different fat quarters that they're willing to sacrifice trade. When the second person claims a fat quarter from the first person, she would then have to showcase 10 fat quarters for another member to choose. It wouldn't cost very much to pop the fat quarter in an envelope and ship it off to someone. It might be a little more for international shipments, but if the fabric isn't too heavy, the cost should stay pretty reasonable. If there is a lag, the last person who chose needs to add to what they are offering for shipment. Rules such as "All particpants must be willing to make international shipments" and limitations on what types of fabrics may be listed would obviously have to be discussed if such a swap was organized.
I heard it through the grapevine that someone has received a wallet!!! There's 8 of us in this swap...which means we can look forward to seeing 8 lovely wallets
This swap gallery is intended as a way to recognize all the wonderful personal swaps that are done in this community!
Folks who have participated in a personal swap and wish to share pictures of the items they have sent and received may do so by posting in this gallery.
Please note that this gallery is meant for those who have had a good experience with their personal swaps! This is not the place to air your grievances about being flaked on! Let’s keep things positive!
Each month, a new gallery will be started. If you have received from a personal/private swap, within the month, feel free to post pictures here!
