DETAILS OF SWAP:
For this swap, you will design/sew a fab zippered pouch for your partner and of course, your swap partner will return the favour by crafting a fab zippered pouchjust for you!
Now, lets talk about the zippered pouch.  As a general guideline, the dimensions of the zippered pouch should not exceed 8 inches by 6 inches (20.32 cm by 15.24 cm).  I have included two basic questions in the swap questionnaire to get you thinking about what your partner likes in a zippered pouch, but you may wish to ask for more information before you start.  Since the object is to make it awesome, youre encouraged to embellish, embellish, and yeah, embellish your work.  Beadwork?  Sure.  Patchwork?  Yep.  Painted designs with fabric paint?  Why not!  You get the idea.  Make it uniquemake it special!  Please make the pouch to the best of your ability!
There is no need to stuff any extras in the pouch because all your time will be spent making a fab pouch that is perfect for your partner Cheesy  If you decide to slip a wee extra in the pouch I wont be mad at you for doing so, but please understand that your partner is not required to reciprocate.

12  COOKING / Dessert / Lazy Blueberry "Pie" or what have you... on: July 06, 2013 11:09:08 PM

There's a pick-your-own organic blueberries place that is down the road from my workplace.
Every summer, I load up on berries to eat and to bake with (and yes, I freeze tons of them as well!).  So far, I've tried muffins, pancakes, cakes and scones.  While looking for an easy recipe for blueberry pie, I found several that used a graham cracker crust base.  Intriguing.  After combining the best bits from each recipe, here's what I ended with Cheesy  I couldn't find the right sized pie pan so I used a sheet pan that measures approximately 9" by 13" by 1.5".

Wanna make one?  Here's the recipe Cheesy

Crust:
2 1/4 cups finely crushed graham crackers
1/3 cup white sugar
9 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine above ingredients in a bowl.  Press mixture into sheet pan.  Bake in 375 degree F for approximately 8 minutes.  Remove from oven, set aside to cool.

Blueberry filling:
3/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
4 cups frozen blueberries (fresh may be used, but i had frozen ones that i wanted to use Tongue)
2 cups fresh blueberries

Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in a large saucepan.  Add water and mix still smooth.  Stir in 4 cups of frozen blueberries.  Bring berry mixture to a boil and cook until thickened.  Stir in 2 cups of fresh blueberries.  Remove from heat, cool to room temperature and pour on top of prebaked graham cracker crust.

Yep, that's it.  Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream to up its yumminess factor.  Leftovers (if any) should probably be stored in the fridge Smiley  Enjoy!

- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 18 years old: Yes
- If within the US, understands that a USPS tracking number is required for this swap: Yes*
- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: Yes*
*USPS tracking numbers and mailing receipts are not required for this swap, but you will have to resend if your envelope does not arrives at its destination.

DETAILS OF SWAP:
For this swap, you will decorate an envelope, pop something in it and send it off to your partner (and why yes, youll receive an envelope in return)!  Partners will be assigned randomly (no favouritism here!) so you could be receiving mail fromanywhere! Cheesy

About the envelope.  This is mail art, so lets get creative.  You will embellish an envelope (whatever size youd like to work with!) to the best of your ability.  Feel free to draw, stamp or use whatever method you like to make it attractive.  If youre new to mail art, do a search on mail art and check out all the wonderful examples for inspiration.  You may also wish to check out Good Mail Day: A Primer for making eye-popping postal art by Jennie Hinchliff and Carolee Giligan Wheeler for further inspiration.
ETA: There was a query about envelope sizes and I posted a response here based on USPS guidelines for letters http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=425077.msg5059914#msg5059914.

Now lets talk about the content in the envelope.  Although the focus is on mail art (i.e. decorating the envelope), its pretty sad to receive an envelope with nothing in it.  So please include something (relatively flat so that your envelope isnt stretched to its seams!) in the envelope before dropping it off in the postbox.  Stumped?  Here are some ideas on what you could put in the envelope: a notecard, stickers, a bookmark, a letter, a favourite recipe youd like to share, a poem, an affirmation card, tips for a favourite craft, a craft pattern, a treasure map (just kidding), etc.

Other housekeeping details and what-nots
1.  I reserve the right to refuse anyone who has a history of multiple instances of poor communication and/or late sending.
2.  You need to make at least one post in this thread.
3.  Check the swap thread regularly. Feel free to exchange tips and techniques about mail art and talk about what youre working on.  And yes, you may also discuss ideas about what youre planning to include in your envelope!
4. For this swap, USPS tracking numbers and mailing receipts are not required, but you will have to resend if your envelope does not arrives at its destination.
5.  Communication is essential!  If youre having issues with the swap, or if youre sending late (for whatever reasons), you must contact the organizer.  Also, please remember to let your partner and organizer know via pm when you send and/or receive envelopes.  Poor communication will be noted in your feedback Sad

20  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Easy Pineapple Banana Bread on: November 16, 2012 06:17:50 AM
I don't care much for bananas...but I adore banana bread! Cheesy

Last evening, we baked 4 loaves and the smell of banana bread baking in the oven is divine!  Banana bread keeps really well in the freezer (we wrap the individual loaves in 2 layers of plastic wrap, 1 layer of foil, and bag it in a zipper bag before throwing them in the freezer) and it's nice to have them on hand for breakfast or when someone stops by for tea Smiley  One of my favourite ways to eat them is to pop a slice of it in a toaster oven and add a smidge of butter.  Yum!

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
3 eggs
1 1/4 cups canola oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
10 oz pineapple tidbits, drained
2 cups mashed ripe bananas

Preheat oven to 350F.  Grease 2 loaf pans and set aside.  In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients.  In another bowl, whisk eggs, oil and vanilla together until frothy.  Add pineapple and bananas to wet mixture.  Add wet mixture to dry ingredients and stir just until moistened.  Fill loaf pans and bake for 65 minutes (note: my oven is pokey...it takes about 80 minutes or so to bake both loaves) or until a toothpick comes out clean.  Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.
