1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mini altered tin swap? on: March 24, 2014 01:52:45 PM
Anyone up for a round of mini altered tins?  The large tins are fun...but anything on a small scale is uber adorable! Wink

These adorable mini altoid tins measure approximately 1.5" by 2.25" and *gasp* have a nice flat surface...perfectly suited for whatever we have in mind Grin

As for themes, I am open to suggestions.  Or we could list our top three favourite themes in swap questionnaires and have our partners go at it Smiley
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Lacroix Sisters (conjoined twins) - Too many pics :P on: August 12, 2013 10:49:52 AM
These modified dolls were sent to my swap partner in the sideshow swap Cheesy
I don't usually do much with dolls, but I really had a fun time with this one!
It was a bit of a challenge (for me anyhow...) to sew the tiny dresses (erm, yeah...the dolls measure a little over 5" in height) but I'm pleased with the end result!

This is the story of Chloe Mae and Verity Mae, collectively known as the Lacroix sisters.  Abandoned at birth, the girls were adopted by a troupe of kind-hearted sideshow oddities, who instantly recognized that the girls needed to be around people who loved them for who they are.  The tattooed lady (Mama Tat to the girls) took on the maternal role and made sure the girls were well cared for.  During their formative years, it was a common sight to see the girls running barefoot around the compound and making frequent stops to visit with their various uncles and aunts (they loved watching everyone get ready for evening shows).  More often than not, the girls would go home with bits of trinkets and sweet treats it was pretty dang impossible not to spoil them!  When they turned eighteen, Mama Tat made good her promise to them.  The girls have always desired to be a true part of the troupe.  So now, they have their own show The Kissing Booth!  Step right up!  Step right up!  For a mere 50 pence, youll be rewarded with kisses from the Lacroix sisters!

The Kissing Booth, constructed by Uncle "Strongman" Hercules:

And having lived with Mama Tat all their life, it's natural for them to want their own tattoos!

Obviously, you also have the option of drafting your own template if you like that sort of thing Cheesy
There are many sources of inspiration available online, and I would encourage you to check them out if you need more ideas.

5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Inchie Houses (some assembly required) Swap? on: July 25, 2013 03:41:34 PM
I would love to start a swap based on inchie houses!

Some of the best examples I've seen, were ones made by Phizzychick Cheesy
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=313936.0

Craftster members Sarcastra and Avesthel have each provided templates for these tiny houses (or if you wish, it's easy enough to draft your own pattern)!

Sarcastra's Template
Avesthel's Template

Rather than shipping complete houses, we will be shipping flat so that our partners can assemble them (yes, flat...in regular envelopes)!

And since one house seems lonely, I'm thinking about doing this in groups of 4 (so that means you'll commit to making 3 houses and receive 3 in return).

Thoughts?

7  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Wee sparrow (with quite a few pictures)! on: July 22, 2013 09:01:56 AM
Meet Jacques Sparrow...my first attempt at needle felting.
For the One Tiny Bird Thing swap, my swap partner indicated that she loves felted birds, so I figured, why not take a stab (apologies for the bad pun Tongue) at it? Grin

Strangely enough, shaping the fibers into a bird-like shape went a lot quicker than I anticipated.  But I was stumped when it came to the eyes and feet bits.

After doing some research, I decided on onyx beads for its eyes and using this tutorial with slight modifications, Jacques' feet were formed Smiley

DETAILS OF SWAP:
For this swap, you will design/sew a fab zippered pouch for your partner and of course, your swap partner will return the favour by crafting a fab zippered pouchjust for you!
Now, lets talk about the zippered pouch.  As a general guideline, the dimensions of the zippered pouch should not exceed 8 inches by 6 inches (20.32 cm by 15.24 cm).  I have included two basic questions in the swap questionnaire to get you thinking about what your partner likes in a zippered pouch, but you may wish to ask for more information before you start.  Since the object is to make it awesome, youre encouraged to embellish, embellish, and yeah, embellish your work.  Beadwork?  Sure.  Patchwork?  Yep.  Painted designs with fabric paint?  Why not!  You get the idea.  Make it uniquemake it special!  Please make the pouch to the best of your ability!
There is no need to stuff any extras in the pouch because all your time will be spent making a fab pouch that is perfect for your partner Cheesy  If you decide to slip a wee extra in the pouch I wont be mad at you for doing so, but please understand that your partner is not required to reciprocate.

10  COOKING / Dessert / Lazy Blueberry "Pie" or what have you... on: July 06, 2013 11:09:08 PM

There's a pick-your-own organic blueberries place that is down the road from my workplace.
Every summer, I load up on berries to eat and to bake with (and yes, I freeze tons of them as well!).  So far, I've tried muffins, pancakes, cakes and scones.  While looking for an easy recipe for blueberry pie, I found several that used a graham cracker crust base.  Intriguing.  After combining the best bits from each recipe, here's what I ended with Cheesy  I couldn't find the right sized pie pan so I used a sheet pan that measures approximately 9" by 13" by 1.5".

Wanna make one?  Here's the recipe Cheesy

Crust:
2 1/4 cups finely crushed graham crackers
1/3 cup white sugar
9 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine above ingredients in a bowl.  Press mixture into sheet pan.  Bake in 375 degree F for approximately 8 minutes.  Remove from oven, set aside to cool.

Blueberry filling:
3/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
4 cups frozen blueberries (fresh may be used, but i had frozen ones that i wanted to use Tongue)
2 cups fresh blueberries

Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in a large saucepan.  Add water and mix still smooth.  Stir in 4 cups of frozen blueberries.  Bring berry mixture to a boil and cook until thickened.  Stir in 2 cups of fresh blueberries.  Remove from heat, cool to room temperature and pour on top of prebaked graham cracker crust.

Yep, that's it.  Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream to up its yumminess factor.  Leftovers (if any) should probably be stored in the fridge Smiley  Enjoy!
