mata, the fabric selection you sent to kiki_eks is lovely Smiley  I'm not usually a fan of batiks (mostly because I never know what to do with them), but I must say that the blue and brown piece caught by eye!  It's abstract...and quite calming (as opposed to the usual busy prints and colors I tend to associate with batiks!).  Since I have a 'thing' for Japanese prints, I'm loving the red/black/gold floral print too Smiley

mata and kiki_eks: Aw...bummer Sad  We'll miss you guys!  Based on earlier discussions, there was a rumour that there might be fabric swaps organized on a monthly basis?  Who started the rumour???  Not me Wink  But sounds good, no?

rosali, This being your first swap and all, I hope you'll have a terrific time!

qazicat, I can't wait either!!!  I'll be going out of town for a long weekend, and you can bet I'll be checking out the local fabric stores to see what I can send to my partner(s)!

It won't be long now.  Partners will be assigned on the evening of the 22nd!  I'm impatient by nature...and I can't wait to get started!

Yikes...looks like I've stepped on some toes by not checking in with Leah or the moderators Undecided  If one of the moderators would unlock the topic, I will fix it ASAP.  Thanks!

Fidget, I love it!!!

I think it's brilliant that you were able to discover a new purpose for something that would have otherwise ended up being tossed out in the process of cleaning out your cupboards Smiley

So, technically, does that still count as 'de-stashing' if you didn't actually get rid or it?  Wink
6898  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Re: A thread for Personal Swaps? on: March 19, 2006 02:18:23 PM
I think most people have no reservations when it comes to taking part in regular swaps, perhaps because of the safety net of an organizer who is supposed to take on the responsibility of monitoring things and finding swap angels when the need arises.  When it comes to personal swaps, that's a whole other ball game.

fadeawaydream, like yourself, I tend to be trusting and have no qualms about swapping.  I did a personal swap last year with another member of Craftster whom I had been communicating with for several months.  By the agreed on deadline, I sent my swap item in good faith.  She received it, and sent me a pm telling me she loved it!  We communicated a couple more times, and then she stopped logging in on Craftster.  I'm guessing she flaked.

I'm not gonna let this incident stop me from doing other personal swaps, either with people I have had contact with or a new person that contacts me about doing a personal swap.  But I guess it would be reassuring to see that there are reliable swappers who honor personal swaps Smiley

I am with you about the need for a place to discuss experiences with personal swapping - the good and bad experiences.  Afterall, that's what discussion boards are for!  However, my concern is that there might be people who would have been flaked on and simply wish to use the discussion board for publicly announcing that 'so-and-so is NOT a reliable swapper!!!' and to quote you, "bash, humiliate, or rip apart the flakers".  You bring up a perfectly valid point that there is a need for these discussions, but I have no suggestions on how to implement it  Undecided

I'm in agreement that feedback is typically left for a member to indicate whether he/she has fulfilled the requirements of a particular swap.

However, rules are usually not quite as rigid when it comes to personal swaps.  The details for these swaps (such as deadline, themes, etc.) are decided by the people who have agreed to do a personal swap, and aside from them, no one else is privy to these details.

I guess the point of leaving only positive feedback for successful swaps is to acknowledge all the crafters who take part in personal swaps...and to establish a record of sorts for people who are reliable personal swappers with a positive spin.  There used to be a list of "suspended traders" and that list is no longer exists, probably because it is contrary to the spirit of things.

Just my two cents.  I am all for keeping things positive.  If there's really a need to keep records of personal swappers that flake (by leaving negative feedback or some other way), I guess that's up for discussion.   Undecided

Awww...he's a cutie.  It's probably my imagination, but the blurry quality of the picture makes it looks like he's wagging his tail?!?
