I'm in the middle of my first swap and so far, it has been a positive experience. My swap partner (you know who you are

) is awesome and we've communicated via pm quite a few times before the packages were mailed. She has thanked me and acknowledged the receipt of my stuff and I intend to reciprocate when I receive her package. I've read horror stories about flaking and the general lack of etiquette on this forum. For a newbie, it's a tad discouraging to read about these issues, but I'm also eternally optimistic that on the whole, the members of this forum are awesome

I agree that it's important to acknowledge receipt and thank your swap partner, regardless of whether the item(s) you received is to your liking. Most folks who craft take pride in their work, and at the very least, their efforts need to be recognized. As for receiving crafted items that 'appear' to have been produced with a distinct lack of effort on the crafter's part, I would rather just assume that the crafter is new to crafting. There might be a remote chance that the item was deemed as 'perfect' by a newbie crafter and viewed as 'less than perfect' by a seasoned crafter. Yes, it might be a naive approach, but I'm comfortable with that
