1  Re: come one! come all! post pics of your tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by redheadedali on: September 14, 2006 07:30:15 PM
Here is a pic of my latest tattoo (my second), the ever-lovely Rosie the Riveter:

She resides on my right hip, and I think she looks wicked cool there Smiley. There's a bit of detail that you can't see in the picture (especially around the eyes and on the banner), but it was the best shot I had, so I decided to go with it.

I was actually wanting something more cartoony, but I am nevertheless very pleased with the end result.

2  Re: Girl Band CD Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by redheadedali on: May 06, 2006 06:08:52 PM
I actually received from starsaver a couple of days ago and for some reason it didn't even dawn on me to find the gallery *smacks self in head*. Anyway, here's what I got:

(sorry about the crappy picure!)

Playlist:

1. The D in Detroit - The Anniversary
2. Long Island - That Dog
3. Papillon - Rilo Kiley
4. The Power Is On - The Go! Team
5. To Wide Homes - The New Pornographers
6. Its - Architecture in Helsinki
7. Burn- Rainer Maria
8. Beautiful Dreamer - Mates of State
9. Act of the Apostate - Belle and Sebastian
10. There Goes My Gone - The Pixies
11. Clap and Cough - Discount
12. Nature and the Wreck - Mates of State
13. Already Lost - Rainer Maria
14. Souvenirs - Architecture in Helsinki
15. Asshole - Rilo Kiley
16. Fake French - Le Tigre
17. Jigsaw Youth - Bikini Kill
18. Wilderness - Sleater Kinney
19. Hart Crane - The Anniversary
20. The Absence of God - Rilo Kiley

It really is a great disc; starsaver had an uncanny sense of what I'd like. I am loving The Anniversary and Rainer Maria, neither of whom I'd ever heard before. I wasn't really familiar with Rilo Kiley's music (though I've been listening to Jenny Lewis's solo album over and over), so it was cool to get to hear them, along with Architecture in Helsinki and Mates of State, who I was familiar with but hadn't really heard a lot of. And I already have big love for The Go! Team and the New Pornographers Smiley. I even like the Belle and Sebastian song, and I've never been a big fan of theirs  Wink.

So that was a really rambly way to say "Thanks, starsaver!"  Cheesy

3  Re: Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Swap Rnd 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by redheadedali on: May 06, 2006 05:50:55 PM
I received from DragonsMuse. Yay! Here are pics:

T-shirt with awe-inspiring stencil of Bloo on the bottom:

Eduardo cuff (it's vinyl with felt embellishments):

Bloo Shrinky Dink necklace:

And my favorite, the Eduardo bottle cap charm bracelet:

I love it all. Thanks, DragonsMuse! (And sorry the last two pics are blurry, everyone - they looked fine on my camera).

I received!

Here's the mailer. Can you tell that I knew exactly what this was when I saw it propped up against my front door? Smiley

Now what was inside: First there's the whiteboard with Muppet magnets. I think I am going to get sticky foam squares and put this on my fridge:

Then a Fraggle Rock CD holder:

And my favorite, a Grand Theft Animal tank top:

I love the way the tank top fits; I'm sort of long-waisted and sometimes T-shirts and tanks cut me funny, but this top makes me look all long and lean. Also, I find this shirt funny because my boyfriend has spent many, many, many hours playing Grand Theft Auto, and this shirt completely drains the game of machismo and makes it cute. So ha - revenge! Smiley

Thanks, vw69! (And sorry, everyone, for the blurry pictures - they looked like they were in focus when they were on my camera).

6  Simple top for my niece in Knitting: Completed Projects by redheadedali on: April 13, 2006 05:20:34 PM
This is a simple-yet-cute top I made for my niece's fourth birthday:

I used this pattern http://www.theknittinggarden.com/gallery/aug-free-4.htm and just under 1 skein of Bernat CottonTots in Strawberry. The birthday girl did not seem all that excited about the top since it did not have a Barbie or a Disney Princess on it like everything else she received, but I'm hoping she will be won over once the birthday frenzy has passed - it came out soooooo soft after I ran it through the washer and dryer (also, the sleeves are not quite as freakishly small as they look in the picture).

7  Kitty video iPod holder in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by redheadedali on: April 13, 2006 05:01:07 PM
I got a swank video iPod for Christmas, and I decided it needed a cozy. I really wanted one where you could still see the screen and access the phone jack and lock button while the iPod was in the cozy, and I couldn't find a pattern that was just right, so I grabbed a needle and thread, felt, and scrap laminating film from work and made one up.

The prototype was plain, boring yellow felt, but once I decided I was happy with the design, I used cute felt with kitties on it. Here are some action shots:

Front (featuring Kim Possible)

Back

Top (where you can see the lock swith and phone jack)

I'm a very, very new sewer, so the stitching is a bit wonky, but overall, I am very pleased with my cozy Smiley.

This is a bag I made for a friend who is a huge Buffy fan (she is the one who got me hooked, and one good turn desrves another, right? Smiley ).

I heart Buffy. She saved the world a lot.

10  Re: come one! come all! post pics of your tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by redheadedali on: April 11, 2006 12:33:07 PM
Hi, all -

I've been lurking on this thread (and posting the occassional "That's so cool!" comment) for a while. I was holding off posting a picture of my first tat because I plan on getting a new one soon and I thought I'd just post them together, but then I was also wanting to post a request for a studio rec, so I thought I'd go ahead and post a picture while I was at it:

Very basic and not super original, but it's mine Wink. It's in the small of my back (if you didn't already get that from the waistband of my jeans appearing in the bottom of the photo Wink ), and it's a little over 5 1/2 years old. I'm still really pleased with it, though the color on the moon could stand to be touched up.

Which is a nice segue to my request: can anyone give me a rec for a studio in Dallas? The shop where I got my first tattoo has closed, so I need a new place. I've heard good things about Cat Tattoo in Addison, which is conveniently located about ten minutes from my house, but I thought I'd see if there were some other places I should check out first. As a side note, I want my next piece to be on my hip, and I would kind of like a female artist to do it, if I can find one - just a comfort level thing.

I've really enjoyed looking at everyone's beautiful work here and look forward to seeing some more Wink.
