We did that this year, too! Glad to see that you and Belladune are getting good use out of your cans, too! I ended up having to spray paint the lids to my cans, though, because none of them matched my wrapping paper. (I used paper that I received on last year's gifts)
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Tonight I cooked dinner using the sun! (Super easy and cheap solar oven) on: June 26, 2008 11:12:47 AM
This solar oven rocks!!! I would never have thought to use a windshield screen as the reflector!

oh wow...that's really impressive!   Shocked

on really hot days i'm always tempted to try to bake cookies in my car (it gets so hot in there!) because 1.) it'd be a funny story to tell and 2.) my car would smell amazing.   Tongue

LOL- You should do that! Back in high school my friends and I accidentally did this. We'd bought cookie dough to eat for breakfast, and left the half-empty tube in the car while we went to school. At the end of the day, there was a giant cookie baked onto the dashboard... Car smelled great, but it was a pain to scrape off.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: creative packaging ideas...? on: May 26, 2008 11:26:32 AM
My ex's little sister would save rolls of expired promotional stickers from her job (as a restaurant hostess) and cover boxes with those. She also saved free posters and comic books (ashcans?) from a comic book convention to use as gift-wrap. Both looks were very pretty!
5  COOKING / Dessert / Re: White Chocolate Cherry Mice on: December 19, 2007 01:34:24 AM
they look so good! was it hard to find maraschino cherries with the stems on them? it seems like they would be!

I found some at Wal-Mart - they were less than $2 per jar (I found them by the canned fruit).   Smiley

My ex's little sister used posters and comic book pages to wrap gifts (free posters and comics she collected at a comic book convention).

She also "wrapped" boxes by covering them in promo stickers she saved up from her restaurant hostessing job. Some boxes were covered with just one style of sticker, and on other boxes she used two coordinating colors/styles/sizes. And she usually didn't waste stickers on covering the bottom of the boxes, unless the picture/description of the product was on that side, too.

All of her gifts looked super cool and colorful sitting under the tree.

Thank you, kitschbitch! She's due on the 12th, and I am freaking out on all of the projects I need to finish, not to mention this one that I need to start!

Yes, I have some ultra sound pictures! We've given him a little album with most of them, but a bigger picture would be cool in a nice frame. I have some cute paper that I could probably decoupage onto a frame, although I've never done that before.

My gf says I should make him a mini sock monkey like the one I made for the baby, but I was hoping to do something more baby-related (although I guess he could tell people he got the monkey when his baby was born?). He's really excited and proud, and that's why I thought something with a picture of her would be a nice gift.

*LOL* I could always make a monkey holding a framed book mark!   Wink
