I think they're both awesome. I love octopii, and The Intrusion is a really cool, original design - clean and simple but also intriguing. Yay Cheesy

I saw all the text and was like, "Dear god, too much reading for this time of night. I need to sleep. I'll start the first paragraph and stop when I lose interest." Welllll, I made it to the bottom Tongue The Snex are my very very favorites! But I fear that were they to live with me, I might become tempted to taste... >Grin

19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Hollowed-out book with treat inside on: June 22, 2008 05:11:26 PM
Not an edible treat, but a surprise nonetheless. I saw this idea in an art community on livejournal and adapted it to my not-so-nefarious purposes.

This was my Christmas gift to my mother this past December: she's a fanatic for things like the Patrick O'Brien Aubrey/Maturin novels, so as much as it pained me, I desecrated (appropriately) a biography of Admiral Lord Nelson and did the following with the inside:

Here's a dim shot of it from slightly afar...

And here's a flash-happy shot of it from too close. The whale's name is Geoffrey.

It was pretty easy to make (although I removed the pages before I should have):

1) Found pretty hardcover book
2) Figured out and drew on the dimensions I wanted for my little tableau
3) Used a box cutter to cut out the center of the pages (TOOK FOREVER. it's a fat book)
4) Picked papers, paints, etc and made all the little things (everything is on a different "level" from front to back)
5) Attached small cardstock tabs to things that needed to be "suspended" and glued them in between pages - this is very visible on the moon
6) Painted decoupage all along the outside and interior edges of the pages, weighted the book, waited.
7) Presented to mother as if it were just a book. TAH-DAH!

Perhaps when I'm not feeling so lazy I'll post better pictures. Hope you liked this!
