1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / adorable bird dress from organic cotton kit on: June 17, 2009 12:58:01 PM
this is actually a pattern kit from an english company called gossypium who make pre-printed pattern pieces on organic fair-trade cotton.

i actually started this last year but finally finished hemming and binding the arm holes tonight - its the first thing iv properly completed from a pattern and i am so so proud of myself because it only has minimal errors Cheesy

hands on hips?!

you can see the length of the dress here, with pleat detail. the bird fabric is slightly ruined by the pleats but hey, who doesnt love a pleat? i also added the belt because it was a little boxy

this is a closer look at the front, with inbuilt collar - i got so confused by the instructions and just went with my instinct and then lo, a collar appeared! one of my sewing highlights!

this is a poorly executed over the shoulder shot of the back, with tie

c&c wanted - what do you guys think?

2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / seamonkeys! oh yeah! on: April 02, 2008 05:32:34 AM
i originally posted this on the clothes board, but i just found this board and it seems a whole lot more appropriate!
inspired by bleachrainbow's narwhalz shirt and my boyfriend's new found love of sea monkeys i decided to make him a sweet seamonkeys shirt! there is a lot of sea monkeys merchandise out there, but this takes a more personal angle i think!

here are the little darlings!
this one is on the pocket

this is the back of the shirt below the collar (probably has a technical name)
i did his name (mat) too for a personal touch! it isnt so crumpled in real life, plus i had just tried to wipe the chalk off so it looks a bit damp/weird

here is a detail of the seamonkey on the back

and the shirt overall - this photo doesnt give it justice. its on the wrong size model so it looks weird

this is the picture i worked from

they are so weird! and yet cute....
what do you guys think?

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / "happy birthday mr president!" marilyn monroe hot water bottle on: March 28, 2008 09:26:00 AM
this was actually a dt project that i made about 3 years ago! its actually very functional as well as awesome!

its made from skintone cotton, with an orange polka dot crepe material for the hair, which i kind of scrunched up and then stitched over with zigzag stitch. the eyes and nose are sequins and the vastly oversized mouth is felt - it used to have a kind of shiny seethrough pink top layer which had a kind of lipgloss effect, but that came off through years of usage!

the back is a ribbon closing

this is a detail of the eye

its machine embroidered (im not entirely sure it belongs on this board therefore but...)

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / pin up eye mask (edit + matching pillow) on: February 26, 2008 01:14:27 PM
I'm really not sure if this is the right place at all but........

voila! its made from half a tshirt and a skirt for lining. its quite based on the eye mask in "tease" but the eyes are my own design and i think they look really glamorous and kinda pin-uppy! like a diva taking a nap Cheesy

the tshirt and the skirt weirdly combine to feel almost velvety! I'm not sure how.

this is during construction - i just thought it looked really cool

finished! but without lentils inside -  didnt have sufficient grains

and a really weird in action shot. its really really hard to take a picture of yourself wearing an eye mask!

comments? what do you think?

i made a matching pillow out of the rest of the t-shirt today

it was already embroidered so its a bit boring but i thought they looked really cute together - its an 18th bday gift for my friend. i scented them both with lavender oil and now they smell so yummy!

plus a hilarious pic of the bf modelling the eye mask!

you like? Wink
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / second in vegetable series - CARROT!!! on: February 24, 2008 06:31:10 AM
so heres my next mini veggie crosstitch which will become a veggie skirt eventually ( stressing the eventually pretty heavily)

this picture shows the shading in the top right corner well, but it looks weirdly pink

this is a bit more colour accurate

what do you think? I'm doing peas in a pod currently!
7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / trillion billion sewing needles!!! on: February 23, 2008 02:38:02 PM
my granny has given me over the years her immense craft collection - i literally have everything i could ever need - like knitting needles in every single size, thousands of amazing vintage buttons, hooks and eyes - you name it, i have it!

so she's given me like at least 1000 sewing needles... and i do lose needles easily but still.

any ideas? so far i have scupture project or fake cactus emporium Wink
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / first crosstitch ever! a radish <3 on: February 08, 2008 09:15:49 AM

and a sneaky close up!

will post more veggies as they are completed...i think an aubergine/eggplant would look beautiful....

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / whats the biggest animal you would fight? jumper on: January 23, 2008 12:57:40 PM
this is the very brilliant question asked to a forgotten comedian that my boyfriend saw...i was immediately captivated by this awesome question. the possibilities for use! the number of q&a sessions that could be livened up by popping this question in! anyway. the year anniversary beckoned and because everything in life deserves a theme, ours was woodland creatures...

and thus...the "whats the biggest animal you would fight" jumper was born ( from a xl maroon jumper and a dkny scarf..oh and t shirt scraps)

the front

action shot

its quality is somewhat lost in photo form i think....
what do you guys think? oh and please please can you slip the question in to any dull q&a  sessions!!!! comments? Cheesy
