They're quite a bit "simpler" than my usual style, but it's been fun to play with something different from my usual

So I've signed up for a thing called Sovereignty Kindergarten, which has nothing to do with jewelry... except that it DID inspire me to do some beading. Which is pretty cool, since I've been museless on the beading front for ages now

This last weekend I made a slew of Sovereignty Crowns, only they're designed so that they have a small clasp, so you can disguise your crown as a necklace if you need to go undercover

Here's some of what I put together;

So here's the background info; I LOVE to bake, and I seriously want to learn to decorate cakes... the only thing is, I don't necessarily want to eat baked goods as often as I want to bake them! lol

I've been contemplating this dilemma for a while, and finally decided that I'm going to start baking cakes to practice my decorating on... and then I can give the cakes away  

I will admit, I'm using cake mixes, since the cakes are just to practice on... but I'm also using recipes from the Cake Mix Doctor, 'cause plain old box cakes are pretty boring. Today's experiment was with the recipe for Snickerdoodle cake... and let me tell you, it smelled absolutely AMAZING baking in the oven.

Of course, I can't give away a cake without knowing whether or not it's yummy, so I made a "tasting cake". Just a little bit of batter baked up in a small mason jar, so cute and tiny I could squeal

it looks like a cookie, then some frosting (or maybe a spread like nutella?), then i'm thinking that middle layer almost looks like either fudge or a really fudgy brownie? then of course more spread and another cookie

damn, now i need chocolate! lol 

i made a strawberry frosting for my niece's birthday cake (wish I would've thought to take a picture of it... she decided she wanted to tint the icing purple, but I let her add the coloring so of course she put in a TON, so it was this crazy-purple cake!)... it was really simple; I just made a basic buttercream frosting, pureed frozen strawberries, strained the puree and mixed it in to the frosting. You have to kind of put the puree in a little at a time, the amount you need will depend on the humidity levels where you live. If you add too much, you can always put in a bit more powdered sugar to "soak" up some of the extra moisture.

I find that if you make it a day ahead, the strawberry flavor really has a chance to set in, and it tastes AMAZING!

ah drats, i'm totally late on this one... i'm in the process of getting divorced, a friend of mine congratulated me with the phrase "eat, drink, and remarry!"

i have a couple of friends that would adore it, they got married this last summer... it was a zombie wedding 

So my mom's been bugging me to make some pillows to display in her store... I've been saying ok (and putting off actually doing it) for ages, but finally sat down and made some today. Funny thing is, it took me less than half an hour to make both of these    I should really try procrastinating less!



It took a little less than 1/2 a yard of each fabric to make both pillows, and for a finishing touch, I sewed on a little shisha mirror 

Woohoo! I got my box from pixie5 today... loads of great stuff, I'll post pictures just as soon as my camera batteries are recharged (doh!)
