great kal!

i became obsessed with making a chunky, slouchy beret after spotting a pic of one on la lohan.

my own attempt was, er, shall we say, slightly less flattering?

i'm thinking about regrouping with one like this in the new twinkle chunky soft yarn. this is a shot from twinkle's fall 07 collection. she showed this hat with a whole bunch of stuff...very cool i think, and would be cute even in this chilly spring weather we're having up north.

finally got a chance to try marjan's pattern last night. it is perfect, esp with the extra-scallopey garter st triangles. knit with the classic elite provence doubled on US9s for a 5" gauge for one patt rep. will post a written out version of the pattern later. thanks to marjan for this great pattern! : )

hi cantafruit...wow you are really workin it. can't wait to see the woven leather, etc.

i got a chance to try lambsear's patt tonight and i think it rocks! i just made one tiny adjustment. on row 16, instead of knitting the double-wrapped sts, i slipped all of them, then turned and knit them all together before proceeding to row 17.

check this out:

this is with the classic elite provence on US8s.
gauge is about 3" for the bottom of the triangle.
think i'm gonna double the yarn for a heavier weight fabric. this feels a little flimsy to me. also i want the bag to be about 16" wide.

here's the not-quite-right-but-close fan triangle i got yesterday. i did the eyelets as YOs, not lifted increases, and to me they do look like the pics.

BUT.

forget that. cuz you. guys. rock.

look at you mocking up the whole friggin thing, cantafruit!

can't wait to try out lambsear's written out instructions.

also.

i got an email last night from butterlite. she sent me a picture of her mocked-up bag so far and the garter triangles look AMAZING. just like the original bag.

this is so cool!

here's the double wrapping of the yarn around each needle

next row: slip each stitch, dropping the wrap from the previous row.
this creates the loops that form the elongated stitches at the tip of triangle.

knit all of these stitches together.

...after stitches have all been knit together

knit the last stitch--voila!
