My friend jokingly mentioned that he wanted me to make sushi for him for Christmas (which also happens to be his birthday). So I thought, it would be cool to surprise him with some sushi. So far, I'm planning to use the recipe from here: http://maki.typepad.com/justhungry/2003/12/handrolled_sush.html

I'm most likely going to roll the sushi into a cone shape. I'm juss wondering if it just stays in that shape after rolling or if I have to do something to make it stay like that.

How long does sushi last? I'm thinking that I might make it and give it to my friend the next day. Would it still taste okay?

Any other helpful hints? Things I should look out for? Any suggestions as to what fillings to combine together?  I'd appreciate any suggestions as this will be my first time making sushi.

Guys are hard to think of presents for. So I decided to try my most non subtle way of finding out what my friend wanted - directly asking him. Tongue Anyways, when I asked him what he wanted he said...himself. lol So I wanna do him "in a box" by basically putting items that relate to his interests/personality. Though I've only met him this school year and known him for only a few months, he's become a very good guy friend of mine. It's a completely platonic relationship though. =)

So what about him? He's a hilarious guy and uber nice. He's a 17 year old Asian boy who's going to be heading to university/college next September. He is mostly taking arts courses (like photography, visual, media and desktop). He is also Christian and works as a swim instructor. Like most boys I know, he's into electronics and techy stuff. He also likes Snoopy. Chinese music (C-pop) is his favourite type of music. (I can't really burn him a CD or anything though because he uses an mp3 player.) Foodwise, all I know is that I often see him eating an apple in the hallways and he usually has a thermos with tea in it. His favourite colours are blue and white.

So far for the "him in a box" I have:

-sketchbooks (http://www.currys.com/paper/prodinfo3.asp?SubcatID=4135&catID=7)
-a Snoopy keychain that I made
-packs of green tea
-chocolate truffles (because he's so nice and sweet =P)

However, as for the sketchbooks, I'm not sure if I should give him one of them or all four. I was thinking that four might be a bit overboard but I'm not sure as I'm not into the arts. I mean...can you have too many sketchbooks? Huh

Any suggestions, crafty or not, will be greatly appreciated. =)

I'm just curious as to how long your transfers usually last. Are they pretty much permanent? I know it probably depends on what brand and how you wash your shirt but I'd like to make a shirt with a transfer as a gift for a friend and I'd hate for the transfer to come off. Thanks in advance!
