21  UNITED STATES / Oklahoma / sew n2 craft & music studio in norman!!! on: April 04, 2006 03:33:56 PM
anyone ever been?  i saw a flyer for it at hobby lobby today and i'll probably go check it out on saturday.  their website is www.sew-n2.com  sounds pretty spiffy, no?

*EDIT*
i just went, and while the store is tiny, you have to go!  she is sooo sweet and has lots of yarn and roving too.  and it really is just $6 an hour to use the machines, thread and help included.  they're all kenmores, which makes me happy because we've always had kenmores and i lurve them.  all in all, pretty fabulous. i think i just found my new favorite place!   Grin
22  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / sapling baby cap on: April 03, 2006 04:55:46 PM
inspired by the infamous umbilical cord hat, i made this for batgirl in the tree swap.  i used a basic freebie pattern for the bottom and winged the tree and leaves.  i think it's kinda silly, but anything's adorable on babies.   Smiley

23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / cherry tree jewelry box on: April 03, 2006 04:49:25 PM
i made this for batgirl in the tree swap. (yes, i'm getting caught up on my posting.)  i drew the picture myself, transfered it on the box (attempt #1 resulted in me learning that dried toner is flammable!), and then painted it with a very, very small brush.  it took me days and days, but i'm really happy with it.  the inside is padded as well as lined.

24  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / wire crochet and needle felt bracelet on: April 03, 2006 04:40:57 PM
i made this for batgirl in the tree swap.  easy-peasy and fun!

you can't really see it in the picture, but there are also lots of very sparkly seed beeds in the wire.  closes with a lobster claw.
25  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / tree bag on: April 03, 2006 04:36:23 PM
i made this for batgirl in the tree swap.  i loved it so much i nearly kept it!  the main body is knitted, and then to do the tree i braided, split, and braided wool yarn and needle-felted it on.  i wasn't sure if that would work but it was easy, just a little tougher on the fingers.   Roll Eyes

a little dark, but the colors are true.

26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / hangliding penguin hat on: April 03, 2006 04:30:10 PM
i whipped this up in a day for my practically-husband's birthday.  he loves beanies, and penguins, and silly things, so *le poof*

the patch is craft felt and a scrap of yarn.  held on with a lot of aleen's stretchable fabric glue and stitching.  oh, and funny story, i glued it on with the hat on my head so it would be properly stretched, and i ended up gluing it to my hair.  ah, i'm brilliant.

i used the london beanie pattern from headhuggers.org and caron simply soft.
27  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / HP scarf, but i'm so proud! on: April 03, 2006 04:19:30 PM
this puppy was supposed to be an xmas gift for my best friend, but let's just say it took me a little longer than expected.  5 months and 46,890 stitches later...

it's longer than my couch!

and a very tired but happy me modeling.

it's red heart because nice yarn in the proper colors is impossible to come by in oklahoma.  i washed it a couple of times, and it feels and smells really nice though.
it's too warm to wear it in texas, but my friend LOVED it.  harry potter is her "comfort movie" so now she has a harry potter "cuddle object."
and the real kicker... this was my first knitting project, ever!  (i did start and finish other ones in between, but still.)  and i do have to brag...not one mistake!
whew.
28  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / little spring bunny on: April 03, 2006 04:07:19 PM
i ran out of stuff i could sew without a dress form, so i made this little bunny out of some skirt scraps.  i sent her to my mom as a surprise because she misses me when i'm at college.

pattern from www.weewonderfuls.c om, about half size and with some slight modifications.

and because little bunny butts are too cute:
29  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / adding music to crafts? need eletronic help on: March 21, 2006 06:12:14 PM
i know this is probably impossible, but i really need to at least try.  i love white oleander, and i fell in love with astrid's suitcases.  (if you haven't read it, she re-cons old suitcases and fills them with stuff, one for each important person in her life.)  i want to do something like that, especially because a lot of the important people in my life were only in it for a little bit.  i've been saving glass bottles forever, and i thought i could make bottles instead of suitcases.  doable.  the problem is, i want a way for the bottle/something in the bottle to play music when i open it.  probably 5 or so songs per bottle.  i could make a cd to go with each one, but then i have to have a player (which i don't) and set it up, and i want to be able to enjoy my bottles instantly and relatively indiscreetly.  i have absolutely no experience with any sort of electronics, except breaking them apart for their pretty bits, but i'm armed with a soldering iron and undaunted.  i just have absolutely no idea how i could do it.  help me?
30  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / computery but distant dad on: March 06, 2006 09:13:37 AM
why are men sooo hard to craft for?  i've looked through pages and pages of stuff, but to no avail.  my dad's birthday (early 50's) is coming up, and i'd like to make him something.  he likes working on computers, 1st person shooters, the dallas cowboys, puzzles, watching bad sci-fi movies on sunday, and rc toys.  i've already made him a circut board clock, and he doesn't need any tool holders/ carrying cases for his stuff.  he's also not into any particular movies or shows.  i can't do anything wtih pictures because i don't have any.  he works a lot so i really haven't spent much time with him since i was little and watched while he played doom and blood and such.   Undecided  i'm a jill-of-all-trades crafter, so really anything at all is possible, if i only had an idea!
