i think she means when people take priority mail boxes from the post office and turn them inside out so that they can ship them first class or media mail.

well, i finally finished a few listings. only one of them is mine--the felt pin. the rest are my boyfriend's little drawn and painted plaques. we both have a ton of other stuff that we hope to finish while he's off work over the next two days. let me know what you think! it's not really like what most people sell--i'm not sure if that is good or bad...

any recommendations are welcome! i'm going to try to get some naturally lit photos soon, but it's almost impossible in this apartment. let me know if you think the prices are too high. we really had no idea how to price anything.

in the next few days/weeks, i'm hoping to list some of my papercuts, some more of his artwork, some lino prints, more felty stuff and some pom pom characters.

i don't know if summerthyme has a camera, so here is the squid that i made for her.
i made a tiny scarf for her to wear on the trip, but i forgot to get a shot of it.
i still need to get the camera out and take a photo of the super cute little bird that
summerthyme sent to me! this swap was so fun!

i think that recycling boxes is great! just turn them inside out and they'll look fine--as long as they aren't being recycled for the fiftieth time with huge dents and scratches. i agree with songjaboo--as long as it looks neat, i think it's fine. i would appreciate that someone was recycling, but still took the time to make it look nice.

i saw something about it on the local news here. i'm interested to see if it's a record day for etsy.

does anyone know the time estimate for getting the view counters fixed? i'm going to go search the etsy forums, but i thought one of you might know. i have five things to list tonight, so my shop will be open tomorrow! i'm pretty excited, but not knowing if anyone is looking will be kind of depressing! i should really say our shop, because my boyfriend is going to be listing some of his tiny paintings and drawings.

*edit*
ahhh, nevermind. i see that it is being discussed in great detail in the forums. no eta in site...
do you guys think it is still a good idea for me to list tonight and tomorrow? or should i wait until the bugs are worked out to open shop? i wanted to be open for the busy shopping day tomorrow...

this thread is great! i'm getting ready (i keep saying that, but really this time...) to open an etsy shop and you guys have made some really great points!

i agree that i really don't want to see all of your crap in the photo of the item i might buy. especially if your room/house looks messy. that is an instant turnoff for me. if your house is messy, i assume that your things are sloppily made. that may not be true, but it's my gut reaction to the photo. i understand that nice photos are not always easy to take. we have zero natural light in our apartment, so getting a good shot can be impossible at certain times of the day. but, everyone can clean off a table or a section of the floor or counter top so that there is a clean surface for the background--especially if your item is small!

i know that it isn't always possible cost-wise, but i would avoid tyvek envelopes as well. they always look SO beat up when they come in the mail. maybe it's just my postman...but boxes generally arrive in much nicer shape.

Ditto for me on the counters. That and the new items on the Home page are the two things I miss most. I think it really effects sales when people see no movement or change. Even though the Treasury chages on the front page it is not the same.

i agree. that's how i liked to browse listings.
