1  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Re: Fav Fabric Stores in Boston's Chinatown? on: October 11, 2009 05:40:05 PM
What are the other fabric stores besides winmill?
2  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / Re: Moving to Boston on: October 11, 2009 05:29:55 PM
Where are the fabric stores? Or at least the ones accessible by non-driving people. Maybe i haven't been looking in the right places. There seems to be a dearth of yarn stores too.

I haven't been on this site in forever. I'm moving to the Boston area next month and looking for all manner of craft resources. I would love to meet up with people also.

I don't know what specific kind of fabric you're looking for, but I think Silk Road has a nice selection especially for silks, velvets and other fancy stuff. They also have a nice collection of vintage buttons.
5  Texas / Texas: Central / Austin Church of Craft - April and Future Meetings Cancelled on: April 06, 2007 08:33:13 PM
I've decided to suspend regular meetings of the Church of Craft here in Austin due to a general lack of interest and regular attendance and also due to my own changing priorities. It's been fun!

If there is someone who would like to step forward and organize meetings in the future, please contact me and I will pass on all the information you need to know. I will continue to be available for one on one craft counseling and I would still like to organize something for the Maker Faire coming up this fall. If you're at all interested, or have any ideas please do not hesitate to send me a note.

Best of luck!

6  Texas / Texas: Central / Austin - February Church of Craft on: February 06, 2007 09:48:19 PM

Our next meeting will be Sunday February 11. Bring any craft you'd like share or work on. Also I'll have materials on hand for quickie lessons in knitting, spinning and embroidery. No experience or special skill is required-just a willingness to hang out and make stuff. Bring a friend or two or three!

By the way, check out these mentions of the Church of Craft in the New York Times (free registration):

and

And check out an excerpt of one of Rev. Callie's (nyc flock) sermons in the new issue of Make: Craft

While we're at it, let's start thinking about what we might like to do for the Maker Faire in October: www.makerfaire.com

The mission of the Church of Craft is to promote making and creativity
as a means to be happier and more whole people. Meetings are held the
2nd Sunday of the month. Bring any craft you want, or if you don't
have anything in progress, there are kits and supplies for projects ranging from ceramics and mosaics to beading and beauty products available for purchase at The Workshop.

See you there!

Sunday, February 11, 2pm-5pm
The Workshop Austin
1211 W. 6th St. Ste. 400
(a few blocks west of Lamar)

Have you started your holiday gifts? There is so much to do and so little time...

Our next meeting is Sunday November 12. Bring any craft you'd like share or work on. Also I'll have materials on hand for quickie lessons in knitting, spinning and embroidery. No experience or special skill is required-just a willingness to hang out and make stuff. Bring a friend or two or three!

************Also I am looking for suggestions of meeting time and places for a weeknight fiber study group. Basically this would be a couple of hours devoted specifically to knitting, embroidery, quilting and other fiber-related crafts. Let me know if you are interested.**************

See you there!

9  Texas / Texas: Central / Re: Furniture (new or used) stores in Austin, TX. on: October 01, 2006 08:57:48 PM
I like South Austin over North. 78704 is pretty expensive these days, but 78745 is fairly reasonable. If you want unfinished bookshelves, I recommend The Bookcase Store on Guadalupe near 42nd St.

Don't forget that Church of Craft meets every month at The Workshop in Austin (though it was suspended during June & July due to me being out of town). All are welcome to come hang out and make stuff.
