I think I worked at the same place. I left to go back to school, and I swore never, ever to take another job as long as I live where I have to worry about how someone might *perceive* my actions/facial expression/lunch choices/transportation method/whathaveyou. (Seriously, I was reprimanded for having a "panicked" look on my face when a customer asked a question, and once I was scolded for stuttering. And they never got over my riding a bike to work, even though it was way more dependable than the bus...)
I'm studying to become a counselling psychologist now. And I bring my knitting to all my lecture classes, and nobody minds.
Are you freaking kidding me???!!!! That place you worked at is just plain ol' scary to try and tell you that you can't stutter/ride your bike to work/etc.
