31  Re: Belly Dance Swap Round 3 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Saturn on: February 09, 2010 09:02:06 AM
Well, Sprig PMed me that she had received a while ago...and I haven't heard from her since then. So I'm going to go ahead and post some pictures. I hope everything's ok. I hope her package didn't get lost in the mail, because I haven't gotten it yet from Canada, though she has received mine and I sent later than her. Undecided But onward with the crappy cell phone pics!

I wove her a tribal belt base.

Gothic-Tribal fusiony fishnet panel skirt

matching face veil

I included a black lace hip scarf because she said she didn't have one.

and a blown glass snake pendant.

Just add a bra and some melodia pants and you got yourself a tribal costume.  Grin

33  Arabian Nights Bedroom: a belly dancer's boudoir in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by Saturn on: December 30, 2009 08:45:44 PM
Ok, So I had this painfully plain bedroom...pale pink walls, old dusty blue carpet, white trim, square windows...just painfully, painfully, plain. I belly dance, play middle eastern drum, and involve myself in all things crafty...so it was time for a change! I had a few influences...belly dance, an old 1949 illustrated copy of the 1001 Arabian Nights, and...I'm a bit red in the face to admit...but...the packaging that some Kama Sutra brand intimate products came in. So! All of those inspirations led to the boudoir-harem fantasy mayhem in this pictures. I was going for the tacky-gypsy-hookah lounge look, so any clashing is purely purposeful. I will defend my curtains though, they look yellow in the pictures, but they are gold Thai silk and the flash made them look too bright. They are much darker in person.
On with the pics!

I painted the walls this wine color. In the daylight it looks more purple, with my lamps on it looks more red. The gold design over the windows came from a design that was painted on a Partylite votive holder my aunt gave me. The majority of the bedding came from the Artesia line at JCPenny, but the curtains are my handy work.  Cheesy The little gold shelf by the bed holds some of those Kama Sutra massage oils I mentioned earlier. Hey, it is a boudoir after all!

Ever watch I Dream of Jeannie when they show the inside of her bottle? She had so many cushions! I have 14 cushions in this room alone. I'll probably end up adding more someday.  Cheesy

A corner where I can drum, put on some make-up or enjoy some aroma therapy candles. I also have candle sconces on the walls. This little cabinet thingie I painted white and then took a henna stencil and applied henna with cosmetic gold dust to stain a pretty design on its surfaces. That was a trying project...but definitely worth it! I did the same to my dresser.

My dressing/dance corner. I put some of my belly dance gear here, and in the trunk that the cushions are on. Oh yeah, I made those too.  Wink

I made these with vintage drapery fabric that was my grandmas.

Does your bedroom overlook the sun swept deserts of Rājasthān? Thanks to some acrylic paint...mine does!  Wink
The moon and stars glow in the dark. I used a star map so the constellations are as correct as I could paint them. I'm a nerd.  Tongue

I did a lot of this antiquing finish to all the candle sconces and this wrought iron garden table with some gold acrylic paint.

And the next project is...the bathroom! Someday... Tongue

Thanks for looking Smiley

34  Re: WWP Yule Swap Round 16 - Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Saturn on: December 30, 2009 06:13:12 PM
Ok, so here is the package I received from Hawkeyes_Girl. I'm sorry they are late, we've been having quite a dilemma with Grams adjusting to the nursing home. She punched and kicked a nurse this morning and they want to move her AGAIN to a different unit in the building.  Roll Eyes

But Hawkeyes_girl's package is helping me recover from the family dilema stress in the following ways:

First, I open up this lovely silk pouch.

Then, I take out the apple pie wax melts it contains and make my home smell like heaven.

I put on my new pretty red cotton kaftan.

Then, my gorgeous new wired jewelry set.

action shot!

Then, I crawl into bed with my new learn to knit kit, with knitting needles in one of my fav colors-pink!

If I'm not up to knitting, I reach for my hand-bound book, and write out some of my belly dance choreography notes.

Ganesha, remover of obstacles reminds me to practice those harder moves...

or, if I feel so inclined, I may just color for the fun of it!

THANKS SO MUCH HAWKEYE! This package has definitely brought some light into a very stressful time. Blessed be!  Smiley Smiley Smiley

INPORTANT NOTE - I do want at least one post in the swap thread or a PM (CC'ed to me and your partner) a week to let us know you haven't been run over by a reindeer.

NOTE TO POTENTIAL SWAPPERS! - My intention is to make this swap very stress free! Isn't it nice to sit by the fire and craft on a cool winter's night? (And I say "cool" because I live in FL, hehe) I understand that a few of you are concerned about the holiday hustle and bustle. I am open to the idea of extending send-outs if need be, but hopefully we won't need to. So we'll cross that bridge if and when we come to it. That's awesome Phizzy! I dream of going to Morocco sometime...they have such beautiful cultural art and craftsmanship.  Smiley

Here's one we snapped after I had finished part of it before the summer. Unfortunately, it doesn't have my lanterns in it, and the DH made the pic more of me and less of the decorating, gah. (Theres a big stained glass and iron Moroccan lantern above my head ) But it made a nice profile pic for myspace anyway. Tongue I'll get the lanterns in the pic next time.

I sent to Hardyswanton and she received it Monday. Here's what I made for her:

She's a belly dance student like me...so I painted her belly dancing fairies with watercolors. They are named after Middle Eastern rhythms.

This one is Beladi. Beladi means "folk" so this is a more tribal style dancer.

This one is Saidi, shes in a more cabaret style costume.

Pentacle wreath, there are antique crystal beads wired into it.

Goddess decorations. earth,wind, and fire

sea shell bracelet and necklace, made from local shells

I also sent a book on Wicca, and some incense, but dint take pictures of either.

Hope you liked everything Hardy! It was fun painting again.  Smiley
