1  Recovered "executive" chairs on the cheap in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by narcissaqtpie on: February 15, 2009 08:53:45 PM
Before the chairs looked something like this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10670897 Except that the "leather" was cracked from years of sitting on my Lips sealed surfing Craftster Grin My only issue was wondering how to recover these chairs until I realized the arms can come off! Duh.

Now they look like this.

All I did was:
1. Remove arms.
2. Wrap the seat bottom & seat back in old knits (t-shirts work) to protect from the cracked leather
3. Staple fabric (clearance Home Dec) to the seat bottom.
4. Pin fit the seat back only around the sides & top, (fabric inside out!) Leaving a few unpinned inches on the bottom, then remove it from seat back.
5. Trace around where I pinned, then trim seam allowance unpin & sew.
6. Staple the bottom closed - tucking in unfinished edges - trim as needed.
7. Reassemble.

Instant gratification - about an hour each, which was perfect because I will be able to change them up whenever the mood hits me! Not too worried about a "professional look," I like it!

Peace.

7  Re: Dress/Work Pants Patterns? in Sewing Pattern Reviews by narcissaqtpie on: September 21, 2005 02:29:35 PM
I've made McCalls 3935. they are really comfy, extra easy and wont take long to make at all. If you want the leg wider you should be able to modify it easily

8  Vogue 7590 and Butterick 4443 w/ pics in Sewing Pattern Reviews by narcissaqtpie on: September 21, 2005 02:23:36 PM
Butterick 4443 - Pretty easy, but It took  a long time to "get" putting the bodice together.

I still dont know what "understitching" is. But I want to make the dress again in a solid color.

the front

the back (um, that spec on my cheek and right b/w the eyes is zit cream Angry Undecided)

Vogue 7590 - so easy I didnt have to use the notches or really read any instructions. I just used the pics as a guide. I changed the waistband to make it more snazzy Grin

front

close-up

Feedback appreciated! especially if you know what the heck understitching is!
