31  Re:yay for summer! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by kabili on: May 03, 2004 07:25:07 PM
thanks for the compliments! and yes, chemicalsmydear, it does have a button closure on the side. though how you could see that with the horrible picture is beyond me!

anyways, an update on my "motivational" plan is that it's working! i finished a new top tonight! and without further ado, my funky 70s print sleeveless top...

(also made from fabric found on the discount rack at wal-mart.)

p.s. yay - i didn't have to take a crappy picture in the mirror this time. use the capture function while the camera is actually connected to the computer! duh!

32  yay for summer! - tutorial added in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by kabili on: May 01, 2004 02:36:11 PM
okay, so i know it's really only spring and not yet summer, but in florida, it's pretty damn hot and humid already. so i thought i'd show you guys and gals this skirt that i just finished:

sorry for the crap picture. i've yet to figure out how to take pictures of myself in the mirror without the flash being too bright.

anyways, this skirt was inspired by GoombaLoveDisaster's tutorial, here. but i didn't put it in that folder because A) mine isn't "reconstructed" - i got the fabric from the discount bin at walmart, and B) i'm hoping that having started a brand new thread will help keep me motivated to finish my other summer-y clothing projects so i can post them here too.

33  some hand embroidery and some "cheating" in Needlework: Completed Projects by kabili on: April 19, 2004 07:00:27 PM
hey gals and guys,

just thought i'd share a cute project i just finished with you all. it's a pillow that i made of a really soft knit (think t-shirt material) for my brand new niece.

i did her name by hand. (if the pic looks funny, it's because i airbrushed out the last name in photoshop. call me paranoid, but keeping at least a little anonymity on the net seems like a good idea.)

and the other designs were done on my machine:

and here's a pic of the whole thing together:

so what do you think?

34  Re:UN-BIRTHDAY SWAP (sign up closed ; mail your craft by 3/24/04) in The Swap Gallery by kabili on: March 27, 2004 07:56:21 AM
oooh, i received my package yesterday afternoon! (it took me this long - after dance class last night - to figure out how to do all the picture-related stuff i mentioned in my previous post. sorry for the delay!)

my gifts were from abricot, aka "rox" (roxanne) and they are awesome! thanks you!

i got a purse/tote bag that I plan to use to carry my knitting works-in-progress. it has a cute felt applique in a leaf motif. here's a pic:

inside, was a cool knitted choker with an off-center flower. i think this will have to a cool weather accessory for me since it's often hot and humid where i live, but my kids at the school where i work will be impressed with my hip-ness. hehe.

and last but not least, there was a neat knitted drawstring bag. it's a good size for hanging on your wrist when you don't want a big purse.

the colors on this remind me of dessert - like a fudge sudae or brownie a la mode. with a cherry on top. hehe. rox, did you plan this, or was it a happy coincidence?

at any rate, this swap has been so much fun, both creating and receiving - thanks everyone!

YAY! i'm so glad you liked the stuff i made, elephantfanatic! i was a little worried since they were ... experiemental crafts. here's some pictures: (and can i add another YAY! that i figured out how to get pictures from our dig cam, to my husband's computer, to our personal web site, and finally to craftster! whew!)

first, my experiments with beaded crochet, which led to these bracelets...

then, my experiment with creating a pattern for a bag. elephantfanatic, your clever mom gets points because the pattern that my bag was based on was, indeed, a jewelry pouch. but i wanted mine to be square. and then it became a little bigger. and then i thought if i added longer drawstrings, it could be more of a small-ish purse. (and so on.) so here's that:

i liked how it kinda looks like a pyramid when the drawstrings are pulled closed. on the inside, each "side" of the pyramid has a inner pouch.

and finally, a non-experimental gift was a arm band/wrist pouch, from our fearless leader, leah's, tutorial.  i don't know if you can see it in the picture, but it has contrasting topstitching all around the edges.

i did have one more gift that i wanted to include (involving more beaded crochet) that was a failed experiment.  Sad but maybe if i ever figure it out, elephantfanatic will get an extra, belated un-birthday gift!
