2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Industrial Sewing machines (Which one ?) on: February 03, 2010 06:42:17 PM
Hi there!

I am wanting to buy an industrial machine for cover stitching (flatbed) can anyone recommend a good make?  I have looked at buying the Kansai Special or the Juki and wondered if anyone out there has a similar machine and could let me know the advantages and disadvantages of these types of machines and any recommendations of any other brand.

Cheers!

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Patternmaking on: March 02, 2006 06:10:13 PM
Does anyone know if Patternmaking for Fashion Design by Helen Joseph Armstrong is a useful book for patternmaking? I would like to buy it but because it costs $102 AUS I am a bit hesitant in case it does not do what I want it to.  I have been dresmaking for about 20 years and am fed up buying patterns that dont fit.  I would also like to do a course online so if anyone has any feed back on a good course that would be awesome.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / On line courses on: January 16, 2006 08:45:23 PM
Does anyone know of a good online course you can refer me to?  Huh I work full time and I have been dressmaking for about 20 years so I know heaps about how to "sew" but I now want to develop my skills and go more into fashion design and patternmaking so I can eventually start my own business (and to get an accredited certificate).  I saw one on the internet called Thomson Direct which is like a correspondence course.   If anyone can recommend one that they found useful, that would be awesome.
Do you know I have rang up TAFE college and they dont do any of these courses here where I live?  Angry They do full time courses but nothing part time, only beginners sewing classes.  Maybe there is not such a call for dressmaking over here Im not sure but by the looks on this website there are a lot of talented  people out there in other parts of the world!

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Making a wedding dress on: July 28, 2005 06:50:31 PM
Im new to this so here goes!

I am making my daughter's wedding dress and I have made a muslin to see how it fits and it fits beautifully but my daughter wants to put a ruched chiffon overlay over the top part of the dress. I know how to ruche by gathering the thread on the seams but as this is over the whole of the top part of the dress I am finding it very difficult to know how to do it.  It is ruched diagnally also which makes it even harder.  Does anyone have a simple way of doing this?  The dress is a princess line seam with a bustier top which has no straps. Help!
