1  Florida / Florida: Panhandle / New Knitting (stitching) Group in Tallahassee on: January 27, 2011 10:47:56 AM
Hi all you Tallahassee area knitters, crocheters, and pretty much mobile crafters of all kinds!  A new group has been formed and we're having a blast! We meet the 1st Tuesday of the month from 5:00 until 7:00+ at the Fermentation Lounge (http://fermentationlounge.com/) located at 113 All Saints.

I've made it to the last two meetings and it has been just plain fun! There are people of all skill levels and people doing all kinds of projects. I'm working on a Dr. Who scarf for my husband, another is working on a felted bag, another makes these wonderfully complicated hats and baby sweaters with needles so tiny I'm amazed she can keep track of her stitches, another is crocheting a somethin' or another, another couple of people using nifty knitters, and another has this awesome portable needle felting kit and makes these little adorable creatures so quickly I have to say I am in awe of her talent! The people are from a wide variety of backgrounds and are an even wider range of ages. We typically have a group of about 10 - 15 ladies and gentlemen.

Basically, we hang out, have a pint or two of quality adult beverages, snacks, jibber jabber and work on our projects. Its a great time.  If you're in the area you MUST join us! When you get there I'm the redhead working on the humongous scarf.   Wink

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Interchangeable Shopping Bag on: April 01, 2010 05:52:00 AM
I saw that changeable purse on TV and said Pa-Shaw! I can make one of those! So here it is!

I made one in a nice neutral tone to go with everything.

The other side has this nice earthy pattern that says go green!

Then I made this one for when I'm feeling spunky I love the cool graphic print!

Here is a close up of the knot work I did to attach the handles.

I plan to make one to go with every outfit!

Comments and questions welcomed.

4  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 39 ENTRIES / Faux Bois Handbag on: June 05, 2009 06:44:34 PM
I have wanted to do a challenge for months but it seemed time just got away from me. This time I was determined. I got a Lumber Liquidators catalogue in the mail and knew I had to make a handbag!

The Finished Product
Just a cute little wood grain handbag with a macrame handle. A wink and a nod to this year's April Fool's prank. I made it using ye olde candy wrapper chain method that I think I learned in Girl Scout camp.

5  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / My new/old favorite ring on: May 29, 2009 05:47:28 AM
I've been taking a jewelry making class for a while now. It's really silver smithing we work with acetylene torches and mostly sterling silver. Here is my new favorite piece.

The stone is a fused glass cab I made. It used to be mounted on an adjustable glued on ring back. I took that setting off with pliers and ground it down so the back would be flat and I could set it properly.

Once I had the setting done I decided that it needed a little more pizazz than just a simple single ring back so I did a double band.

It's my new fave I wear it almost every day.  Grin It's a vast improvement from the glued on adjustable ring this cab used to have!

6  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Quiche, Quiche Lorraine on: May 05, 2009 07:03:51 AM
A while back the Craftster Challenge was craft a favorite song. I was stoked! I was going to make Quiche le Poodle from the B-52s' song Quiche Lorraine. One thing lead to another and I just didn't get it done.  Sooooooo when I went to my local polymer clay guild meeting Sunday (those ladies are awesome, by the way!) I decided I'd make Quiche.

Here is how the song goes:

"...Has anybody seen a dog dyed dark green, about 2 inches tall with a strawberry blond paw, sunglasses and a bonnet and designer jeans with appliques on it..."

And here is Quiche from 4 different angles so you can see each of the elements from the song. Teapot did the appliques. But I did the rest.

I'm VERY new to poly clay, it was fun to make something silly. Now Quiche sits on my desk like a proper guarad dog.
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Sailing, and econ, and embroidery and presents - a few of my favorite things. on: May 05, 2009 06:45:13 AM
I'm a full time grad student and the semester just finished. My Economics professor totally rocks! She was able to make economics fun and interesting. So, when I got an invite to her end of the semester celebration I knew I HAD to make her something cool as a thank you for restoring my passion for academia present.

She's not just an Econ professor, she is also a BIG competitive sailor. So this is what I came up with. I embroidered the words Efficiency, Equity, and Liberty in signal flags. These are the 3 terms/concepts we used to analyze any number of policies.

I framed it in one of those pretty embroidery hoops.

Here's a Close up

My satin stitch could use a bit of work but over all I'm pleased and she LOVED it!

This craft-a-long is just like this one http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=143008.0 and this one http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=91746.0 and this one http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=217064.0. It was so much fun and so many people wanted to do it again this year I decided to start it again.

What you do is make one, or maybe more things in the color assigned to each month.  It doesn't matter what you make, it can be a bag, clothes, jewelery or whatever you have in mind.

Just a tip...... if you click on the "show images only" tab at the top of each of the previous color craft alongs you can see the pictures of all of the previous projects without going through every page.

2009 Colors:
January: All the colors of the rainbow
February: Red
March: Green
April: Purple
May: Metallic colors like Silver, Gold, Copper, & Bronze
June: Pink
July: Yellow
August: Blue
September: Brown and or Gold, Bronze (brown-ish metallics)
October: Orange
November: Black and White
December: Holiday Colors

Rules:
You can join the fun at any time.

You don't have to use, for example, one kind of orange, you can choose every orange in the orange color scale you want.

It's okay to mix the theme color with some few others if you can't avoid it. But remember to keep the theme color the dominating colour.

Deadline for posting the monthly picture are 7 days after the theme month.
