31  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: How's Your etsy Shop Doing? on: January 18, 2006 06:27:44 PM
I'm thinking that we all got a bounce from the Daily Candy article but now we are evening out.  Guess that means we need more articles written.

I don't have an article written but I did coerce a friend of mine with an extremely successful infertility blog ( http://zia.blogs.com/wastedbirthcontrol ) to mention my shop hoping to draw more non-crafters into the etsy site. She didn't name Etsy specifically like I hoped she would but hopefully viewers will bounce from my shop into the rest of Etsy.

I don't know what her hit count is like but she has been featured on a radio show in Australia and there was a Washington Times web article written about her blog ( http://washtimes.com/familytimes/20050521-101424-9426r.htm ). She receives an average of about 50 comments to each post she makes.

I've been adding to my shop lately (finally fulfilling the claim to selling stationery!), and am trying to get some unsappy Valentine's things off the ground.

Anyone else trying to market towards that upcoming, often dreaded holiday?

My accessories we're intended to be Valentine's Day sellers. It remains to be seen if it will work out for me.

PS - the "EYE" sold and I know it was because it made the featured items list.
I can't believe someone bought the eye!

We just had an item featured on Monday (fianc made a sketchbook w/tree illustration) and it sold the same day. Getting featured rocks. I wish there was a way for us to nominate items to be featured so we could spread the love.
34  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Altoid tin theme swap on: January 05, 2006 12:06:47 PM
This sounds like a fun idea. I have a ton of Altoids tins and even the round sours ones just waiting to have something done to them!

I checked out your site manilahooker, thanks for the link to this topic! I definetly want to see what you came up with. I'm happy to have inspired someone...never though I'd see the day.

My fiance and I started our shop on Nov. 29. So far we have sold 4 items but we only had 8 on there until yesterday anyway so I would say that is a pretty good ratio. My fiance also took third place in the Amigurumi competition ( http://blog.etsy.com/?p=54 ) so that  was a great moral booster for him. We make sure to advertise by posting our finished crafts on crafster, blogging about it on our website which gets pretty good traffic, and posting on a friends blog that has a good readership.

Hmm...I also have a friend/old boss who has an extremely successful blog ( http://zia.blogs.com/wastedbirthcontrol/ ). She manages an art shop at my alma mater ( www.moore.edu )  and might plugg etsy for me since I painted this awesome birdhouse for her as a house warming present.

I have purchased one thing on etsy so far but unfortunately I am not happy about it. It was a Christmas present for Dennis (my other crafty half) and was purchased on time but the seller screwed up and switch items between my and one other buyer. I sent the other buyer's stuff to him right away but I hear he went out of town and behold it is January 2 with still no present for my baby. I may have to ask for a refund at this point and send the item back to the seller if I ever get it.

37  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Kenmore Mini Ultra--Problem? on: August 16, 2005 09:25:28 PM
I have had my Mini for I think around 2-years now. I get the same sticking problem once and a while but it is usually when I am using heavy fabric and backstitching a lot. The thread gets tangled fairly often with mine but I still love it and I believe 90% of my problem is user error since I am self taught. Right now I am trying to figure out if I can machine embroider with ih. I think it's possible but I have to figure out if a can get a darning/embroidery foot for it.
