1  Asian Noodle (or Noodle-less) Salad! in Recipes and Cooking Tips by Kristen81 on: November 04, 2009 06:47:10 PM
I love this salad!  Love, Love, Love it!  I stumbled across it on the 'pioneer woman cooks' blog...but I made a few changes to make it a bit healthier.

If you want to check out the original version head on over here:  http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/03/my_most_favorite_salad_ever_ever_ever_ever/

SALAD INGREDIENTS:

1/2 sliced Napa cabbage
1/2 package shredded cabbage (cole slaw mix)
1/2 red bell pepper, sliced thin
1/2 yellow bell pepper, sliced thin
1 small bag bean sprouts (also called “mung bean sprouts”)
3 sliced scallions
1/2 english cucumber cut in strips
1 big handful baby spinach leaves, washed
LOTS of chopped cilantro—up to one bunch

DRESSING:

Juice of 1 lime
4 tbsp olive oil
2 tsps sesame oil
8 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, chopped
2 cloves chopped garlic
2 hot peppers or jalapenos, chopped  ( use these if I have them...if not, I use a healthy squirt of sriracha hot sauce)
More chopped cilantro—LOTS...about 1/4 cup

Mix together salad ingredients. Whisk together dressing ingredients and pour over salad. Mix with tongs or hands and serve on platter.
*Dressing keeps up to three days before serving, WITHOUT cilantro.

**The above recipe has been modified from the original on the pioneer women's website.  I leave out the noodles (hence the decreased amount of dressing)...I am doing this because I am doing weight watchers and this means less points.

I will also add cooked shrimp, crab flavoured pollack, and or pounded and grilled chicken to this for dinner.  If I am doing the chicken...I pound a chicken breast flatt....and I make and extra bit dressing to marinade the chicken before grilling.  Grill 4 mins per side, slice and serve over salad!

2  Re: Ferragamo Bag in Crochetalongs by Kristen81 on: August 07, 2009 09:40:51 PM
It's done!  I'm not truly happy with the hardware but it's the best I could do...

I've finished the bottom of my bag!!!

Working on the top...go it partly finished....going to line the top with pleather before attaching it to the bag...

The pleating looks wonky in the photo cause of the way the bag is sitting....looks straight in real life.

4  Re: Dresser - To paint or not to paint? in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by Kristen81 on: June 29, 2009 05:38:56 PM
I vote for paint.  I bought an "antique" dresser off a buy and sell and painted it black.  My dad almost cried when he did it...it was walnut.  But I love it SO much more in black.

I say it could be the most valuable antique piece...but if you are going to keep it, not sell it....why the heck not?  Paint Paint Paint!!!

Here's mine...

5  Re: Rebatching Ivory Soap in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by Kristen81 on: June 06, 2009 12:41:35 AM
I shredded an Olay bar tonight just for fun.  Added some ground oatmeal and some olive oil.  I poured it into a cling-wrap lined soap box to harden.  I'll pop it out in a few days and un-wrap it so it can dry for a few weeks.  We'll see what happens!

Here it is so far!

6  The Macro Garden (pic heavy) in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Kristen81 on: June 02, 2009 11:55:36 AM
My boyfriend bought me a new camera for my birthday and I've been itching to try some shots.  My condo doesn't make for very interesting media...so I stepped outside to the garden.

Here it is.  One serving of moist, dense chocolaty chocolate cake anytime you want!  That's why it's so dangerous!

Recipe:

4tbsp flour
4tbsp granulated sugar
2tbsp cocoa powder
2tbsp chocolate chips

Stir to combine in a large coffee mug.

Add...

One Egg
3tbsp milk
3tbsp oil

Stir well

Microwave 3 mins on high power (1000 watt microwave)

loosen from mug with vigorous shaking......or a knife around the edge.

VOILA!!!!  Cake!

Enough for two!  Or just for you!

10  Vintage Panel Fabric? in Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions by Kristen81 on: April 21, 2009 01:58:10 PM
Got this fabric at the thrift store!  Couldn't pass it up, it's just soooo pretty!

But....what to do with it?  Each square (panel) is 29.5" x 33"

I was thinking a handkerchief dress?  But not sure how to construct one or if it would be flattering on a plus sized frame (I don't want to look preggers)...what do you think?

oh!  and a skirt won't work with this stuff...it's a little thin and I don't want to line it.  Plus, it gives the carpet cellulite!  I'd hate to see what it does with my butt!
