Well, you're right about the story being sinister, at any rate.
In one of the original versions of the story, after encountering the wolf disguised as Grandmother Little Red Riding Hood is tricked into eating her grandmother's flesh and drinking her grandmother's blood (being told they were meat and wine), and then told take off her clothes and get into bed with the wolf.
Creepy? Check. Sinister? Check.
