1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / My recent RAW show- tons of pictures~~ on: November 16, 2014 09:48:00 PM
Hi everyone! I recently participated in a RAW showcase and thought I'd share some photos of the work I did for the show.

If you haven't heard of RAW, it's basically an organization that promotes local artists and gives them opportunities to show some of their work and sell a few things/make some connections. I was scouted and booked for the showcase less than a month before it was to take place, so I had a lot of work ahead of me... each artist gets 6ft of space, and the planning stage included lots of on-the-floor 6'x6' layouts of pieces i had done already and what i still PLANNED to do. When I was first booked, I only had the two biggest canvases in the photo below completed, so this layout progress photo was taken a few days into it. i planned to do lots of little things and bring prints of my larger works to sell.

I ended up with this layout that actually turned out to be 12'x6'. RAW contacted me two days before the show and decided to double my space because I had mostly large works, but i have a feeling it was more because someone had backed out so there was an extra spot and i had also gotten a big feature on their site so i was one of the headliners. I used this opportunity to bring two more large works and also to space out the smaller ones I had worked on. as you can see, i moved this step out to the driveway to accommodate everything!

Here's a video of me talking about my work, and there are shots of the layout that I unfortunately didn't get still photos of... click if you're interested!

I have some closeups of the things I made specifically for the showcase, so i'd like to share them with you Smiley they're all relatively small and i apologize that some of the photos are crooked and much less than professional, but i really just wanted to document my work at the time.

here we go!
the following canvases are 6"x6"

these are 4"x4"

these are 5"x7"

this one is 4"x6"

and these last few are all 9"x12"

phewww okay that's all for now! i think i need a nap after that. anyway, if you'd like to read the interview i did with raw for my featured headline on the site you can find it here Grin

2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / A few ball-jointed doll inspired cards~ on: February 19, 2014 11:59:48 AM
Hi everyone, hope all is well. I've been sick for about 6 months now & quite honestly have not been able to bring myself to paint or draw anything, perhaps also partially because I'm in a quarter life crisis after graduating college, because school was my LIFE & I loved it. It's been tough. Anyway, a while back I made some cut out cards:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=425134.msg5060198#msg5060198

..so I thought I'd give some more a try. Lately I've been really into looking at different ball-jointed dolls & I think they're really cool, so they inspired me to make a few cards. Two of them have cutouts like the ones I've made before, & for the other two I filled the frame with hair... just because I love hair in the least creepy way possible, lol. I think you can probably tell when you look at some of my other work as well.

Anyway, these are all inktense pencils on acrylic paper. I like the inktense because they're easy to use & i'm just not up for getting all of my paints out & setting everything up... this way I can still achieve the look I like.

"Brown eyed girl"

"Braid"

"Sisters"

"Sea Foam"

They're actually in the reverse order of the order I did them in, so the bottom one was first & the top was last. I'm planning on buying some more inktense pencils because I only have 12 right now so I'm a little limited. Hope you enjoy!
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Japanese & Chinese cutout cards on: August 07, 2013 12:48:44 PM
Hi guys, here are my latest two cards. My boss really liked the fish cards I made with the inktense pencils she gave me, so she gave me this metallic gold paper to try some stuff out on. It's a little difficult to paint on but I like it. I've made these two cards so far with acrylic paint:

& some deets

"Maneki Neko"

I tried to get some different angles to convey the texture/sheen of the paper

"Shanghai Streets"

Enjoy!

yes! i have inktense too! i tried them a couple times but then was painting alot. i need to get into them again. i kept having problems with my paper (bristolboard) kinda looking like when you rub over the same spot too much with an eraser after i inktensed and watered. any tips? msg me

love the fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! Okay don't quote me on this, but I THINK most bristol is intended for dry mediums only unless it specifies otherwise on the package. If I were you, I'd try using something like watercolor paper or something else along those lines that's meant to get wet by nature of what you'd be using with it.

ps. Thanks everyone! I'm glad you're enjoying my cards!

Hi everyone! My boss is more like a mom to me & buys me presents sometimes, so recently she bought me a set of inktense pencils. Neither of us had ever used them before, but one of her student assistants uses them frequently and highly recommended them. For anyone who hasn't used them before either, you can use them like you would watercolor pencils- they're made from watersoluble ink & are really vibrant. You can either leave them as they are or use water with them to drag the colors around & paint with them. Last night I decided to try them out & I really like them! I made a few more of those fish cards using those pencils & water.

& some close-ups

"Wear Moor Black"

"Something Fancy"

"Icy Hot"

"Calico Cat Bait"

Thanks for looking!

Thanks, guys! Yeah, I've been trying to find a way to play with the negative space while still keeping the cards relatively simple.. I like these so I might make a few more along these lines in the future.

9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / "Tide" acrylic painting on: June 26, 2013 01:21:23 PM
Hi everyone! I'm back with another painting. I've been trying to use my time productively since graduation. I've put a website together with some of my work it doesn't have a whole lot on it yet, buuuut i'm trying to make it look nice and (relatively) ~professional~ by only putting what I reeeally think should go there. I haven't gone through my older work yet, so there are only the latest projects up there. I still have to post my resume & things like that, but there's an exhibitions list if you're curious.

Anyway, onto the painting!
