2  UNITED STATES / Michigan / CRAFT magazine release party, Michigan on: June 04, 2008 05:10:37 PM
WOOT! Metro Detroit was selected as one of the cities to host one of this summer's CRAFT magazine release parties! And we're honored!

Join us on Sunday, June 29, from 1-4 p.m. at Woodward Avenue Brewers for an afternoon of reading, crafting, munchies and more.

For the crafting, you'll be able to make Cathy Callahan's old-school shoe clips from this summer's issue. But, you know, with a Mitten twist Wink We'll also be sampling fabulous munchums from the WAB's kitchen with $2 pints. How nice!

You'll also be able to preview the new CRAFT, get a subscription for a bargain-basement price, buy the current issue, enter to win some great door prizes from Chronicle Books and more. Are you excited yet?

Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your neighbors, bring your dog... No, wait. Don't do that. That's probably not a good idea.

Check out http://www.handmadedetroit.com for updates and more party magic.

It's gonna be awesome, dammit.

Handmade Detroit presents
Rethunk 2008

Join us for a green-minded craft fair as we celebrate the launch of the first-ever Green Street Fair in downtown Plymouth, May 3-4!

What is the Green Street Fair? Check it out:

Green Street Fair was founded to help educate and inform people of all ages about the benefits of green, organic, and eco-friendly products and services. To promote global interest and personal well-being, the Green Street Fair will blend companies, artisans, entertainers, and speakers together in a friendly and family-oriented outdoor environment. We believe that even the smallest steps in going green can make a world of difference.

More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this new event.

Handmade Detroit is looking for vendors whose goods contain recycled/repurposed materials or reinforce a green lifestyle overall. Mass produced items are not allowed. All applications will be reviewed by Handmade Detroit for green screening.

Were looking for 13 vendors. Each seller will have 4 feet of space on an 8-foot table shared with another seller (space is tight, but we want to get in as many people as possible!). Each spot is for one day only, not the entire weekend. Sellers will be selected for a day depending on variety of goods represented. If you are available a specific day only during the weekend, please make sure to note that on your application.

Provided with each vendor spot:
Table
Chairs
Lunch (box lunch, specifics TBD)
HD Rethunk tote bag

Saturday fair times: 10 a.m. 7 p.m. Cost = $40

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Sublime Stitching swap? on: October 11, 2006 01:05:09 PM
Anyone interested in starting a SS swap? For Halloween or other upcoming holidays?
8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Stabilizers on: October 11, 2006 08:37:34 AM
Hi all! When do you use stabilizers on your embroidery projects? So far I've been using lightweight fabrics, but is there a need for stabilizers with different weights/textures/etc?

I've never used stabilizers before, so does anyone have any good tips? Thanks!
9  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Protecting your finished work on: October 11, 2006 08:19:16 AM
Does anyone have any suggestions for putting some sort of fusible material over the back of your stitches for some extra protection? I thought it might make for a more finished look and keep any stray threads from coming loose in the wash. Has anyone tried this? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks, stitchers!
10  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Suggestions for items to embroider on: October 09, 2006 05:12:21 PM
Hi all! I'm an SS fan, and was wondering what fun things people have embroidered on besides towels, t-shirts, etc. The holidays are just around the corner, so I thought I'd get a jump on it!
