21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Moderators and Organizers, I need your opinions--We need to give Negatives!!! on: February 25, 2006 06:09:14 PM
Ok, I couldn't fit what I am trying to work in my head in the subject line of this topic sooo...

I recently have been looking at the list for the Ongoing Wishlist Round 7 that I'm organizing.  I've sent PMs to everyone that has been late, etc, some have checked in, some have not.

A couple of people who I have who say they will be late, or sending the next day, or need more time I decided to look in their profiles, or just happened to be browsing my updated topics (I.E. Ongoing Stuff I Can Make 2, and Ongoing Wishlist 6 Swap) and found that they owe up to two items for each of these swaps--and who knows for the other swaps as "In Progress" in their profiles.  Now, I understand that it is good to check in, say they'll be sending a little late, but I don't think it's cool to be sending weeks later on multiple packages--sometimes it looked like up to four packages!

I don't see why we can't put negative feedback in profiles as simply a means to keep people from just signing up for more and more swaps, thus making their lateness problems worse and worse.  I understand sending late, it happens, I've done it, I am sure everyone has, but just worsening the situation over and over by signing up for your max in all these ongoing swaps...

So, I really don't see why we can't put a "hold" on these people by adding negative feedback, it's not going to stay their forever, but it will help from them getting overswapped and overwhelmed I think... does this make sense to aanyone else?  Or am I just babbling on?
22  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / My first real FOs! Felted Marsupial Bag, Casey's Coat Dog Sweater, Lil Devil Hat on: February 21, 2006 04:59:00 PM
I love knitting!  I just love everything about it so far.  I can sit on the couch and knit and veg out to TV.  Here are my first "real" things.

First I made the Lil Devil Baby hat from www.kittyville.com for my Daughter, I left off the earflaps and tails.

Then I made the Felted Marsupial Tote.  I used Paton's Classic wool merino.  Yum, brown and turquoise!  I didn't make the little pouch, I haven't decided if I would really have a use for it yet.

With the leftovers from the bag, I made my sweet chihuahua rufus Casey's Coat, the doggie sweater from SnB Nation.

Yay, I am a knitter! Smiley
23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Sewn Fleece "Tree Scarves" on: February 08, 2006 06:05:52 PM
For some reason I always buy fleece at the fabric store--but I don't really have too many uses for it here in Las Vegas.  I love working with it though!  So here are a few things I have made for swaps with your normal fleece.

This was the first tree scarf I made(photo taken by lasandri-the recipient, who also inspired the design).  The flowers are kansashi style, and made to look like cherry blossoms with watered down paint and fuzzy type yarn.  They have pins attached to the backs so they can be moved/removed.  The leaves are layered ultrasuede and fleece.

Since then I  have made two more.

Basically the same, but a little lighter weight, darker brown fleece.  The flowers are a little differently made so they wouldn't be as heavy on the scarf. These two got some "training" from one of our trees before they got sent out.

differently than most.

The first person puts a list together of all the things they could
imagine wanting that they cant make. YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY ITEMS ON YOUR
WISH LIST AS YOU WANT, HOWEVER YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF SIX.

Then people will read your list, and see if they see something they
want to/can make on there. They reply to the thread and say I claim Suzie

fulfilling. Please remember that this is a wish swap, and people are posting
their wishes.  Do not claim someone unless you can fulfill that wish to a high calibur!

THERE WILL BE FEEDBACK FOR THIS SWAP
- Don't forget to get a DC NUMBER when shipping in your own country!  This will be recorded in your feedback
- Please communicate when you send and recieve, or if you are going to be late.  Poor communication will be recorded in your feedback

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND I CAN
ANSWER AND MODIFY THIS INFORMATION. Please be sure to include "Ongoing
Wish Swap 7" in the subject line of your pm!!

Credit goes to eowynmn for the original swap idea and most of the info

26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / You've never seen me HERE before, I knitted something! on: January 05, 2006 08:29:40 AM
You may recognize me from the swap boards, where I am always wishing and drooling all over the knit goodies!  In fact, I've been spoiled by the knitting fairies, and recieved lots of yummy knit items to fullfill my cravings. (Thank you all!)

However I figured it was time to step up and finally learn myself... I got a copy of Stitch n Bitch, and some knitting supplies from my sister for x-mas, so this last week I've taken a couple hours to try to get the hang of it.  Yesterday I was getting antsy to have something that actually LOOKED like a real item (this is the problem with sewers, we're into the whole instant gratification thing).  I grabbed one of the few yarns I had (included in the gift from my sister), Patons Classic Wool Merino in Natural Mix, I beleive, and cast on on a size 7 16" circular needle.  I must have cast on about the minimum stitches because it was pretty hard to knit those up, I kept having to PULL to get those stitches off the needle!  About an inch up I decided to try to use some DPNs I had picked up at a yardsale a long time ago, bigger gauge than the circular, but that didn't stop me.  I kinda just went for it... and man the DPNs are fun, and I kicked arse on them I must say!  Knitted up a couple more inches with the merino, and decided that was looking BORING.  Decided to practice switching yarns, and started using the yarn I got in my stocking from my mother called Sullivans Soft Opulence, 100 % man made something, totally not compatible with the wool, but once again, I didn't care. Knit some more.  Decided I wanted a hat NOW, started adding decreases every 6 stitches or so... ok, really wanted to finished and did it every 4 stitches, this will look more like a beret... then 2... cinched it all togoether at the end, weaved in my ends and WHALA!

Now I have something that looks like a pizza, or a yummy piece of foccacia bread, for my daughter to wear!  I couldn't resist putting it on her last night, even though she was already asleep when I finished Smiley  Here are some pictures...

Anyways... sorry to be so long winded, I'm just excited to be able to post on this board, FINALLY!  I hope to be knitting more soon!

28  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Blue Dip-Dyed Long tiered skirt on: November 06, 2005 04:00:49 PM
I made this skirt for the "I saw it on Craftster Swap."  My partner said she liked the skirt in this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=53584.0;topicseen

I varied the measurments only slightly and used a different dye method.  The most time consuming part was serging the edges to prevent fraying... oh yeah, and all that gathering!  I think I will make one for myself, eventually... but right now, I don't think I want to see that much fabric in one place for awhile!
