Sweeeet!

I got teamwang's package today and it rocked!  I got a copy of ReadyMade, various nuts, treats and jams, some fabulous fabric, skull erasers, a bookmark, some paper cutouts of the character for 'dream', and a brightly colored case.

I'm so happy with everything!  This swap was a great idea.  Thanks!

Yay!  I got my package from Jerome yesterday and I am so grateful!  I received a pencil pouch, covered notebook, tiny owl plush, and a sock owl(!).

The loot:

The sock owl:

I am so in love with this thing.  I haven't been able to put it down since it arrived yesterday.  It's so squishy and cute!

Thank you so much, Jerome!

3  Re: Paper & Ephemera Swap Gallery (warning: may induce envy) in The Swap Gallery by selenium on: July 06, 2005 01:37:30 PM
There were so many things in my envelope that I'm not sure what to do with it all.

These were my favorites:

I especially loved the funky patterns, anatomy drawings, butterflies and stamps.  There was even a sheet of paper that resembled a very thin sheet of wood.

Thank you so much, happify!

Jerome got my package in the mail, but she has had a busy week (get well kitties!).  So, I'm posting pictures for her.

What I sent:

The magnets:

The bird on the bag was supposed to be an osprey, but birds of prey have a way of looking alike in silhouette.

5  Canvas and Vinyl: His and Her Laptop Bags in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by selenium on: June 23, 2005 09:18:49 AM
Two of my friends are getting married this weekend, so I made bags for them to take on their honeymoon.  Hers is made with ribbed vinyl and linen lining with a felt cutout and I filled it with yarn and knitting needles.  His is burgundy canvas with dress shirt fabric lining and his came with crossword puzzles and magnets.

Under the flap:

I used gloriana's messenger bag tutorial, but I kept the sides and bottom as one piece to make the corners stronger.  I also added a layer of the thickest quilt batting I could find under the lining to make it laptop friendly.  The pockets were made using SewPixie's wonderful zipper pocket tutorial.

I love ribbed vinyl.  I looks really distinctive and doesn't stick when I'm sewing like regular vinyl.  I'm going to try and find it in other colors and make more.

I'll try to get pictures in better light later this week.

The jacket:

It was pretty easy for my first jacket, but I did make a lot of mistakes.  I'll just have to do better on the next one.

Plus, the cause of my procrastination:

edited to add a less blurry picture

8  Re: Black Valentines in Party Planning by selenium on: May 08, 2005 02:18:58 PM
My friends and I would always have Anti-Valentines Day and get a cake from the Watergate bakery.  They always looked puzzled at the inscriptions we requested.

This is from the first party:

"Happy Birthday Bitterness" is written on a marzipan wafer.  It's a tiramisu cake.

9  Lets make a jacket! **Updated with more photos** in Clothing Sewalongs by selenium on: May 06, 2005 06:43:37 PM
I recently bought the pattern for M4782 and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a sewalong.  I'm pretty new to sewing from patterns (I've only done a few skirts) and it would be nice to sew with other people of varying levels of experience.

Anyone interested?

Someone from craftster has already made this jacket if you're interested in seeing how cool this pattern can be.

ETA: As with Randommarble's suggestion, this sewalong can include any lined jacket pattern.  Men's and women's patterns are both welcome.

**UPDATE**

It is now summer instead of spring, so I guess we're just working on jackets rather than spring jackets.  We'll be ready for chilly summer nights and the coming fall.

We have several completed pieces now.

Starlene's fabulous summery number:

My fall jacket made with spring suiting:

Starlene's second jacket:

Dolores's hot designer jacket:

If anyone has any other pictures of their finished products please let me know.

Mistakes were made (at least on my part) and much has been learned.  We will be trying in round two to make a more perfect jacket.  I have chosen to switch to Burda 8208.

10  Re: Collages...What have you done w/ em in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by selenium on: May 06, 2005 09:05:43 AM
I had the best art teacher in high school.  He taught us to keep image files; they were big folders full of interesting images ripped from magazines.  Each student would have their own and the pictures could be used to build collages or as models for drawings.  National Geographic magazine is probably the best for this because it has a wide range of images and really good, thick paper.

Plus, it is easy to make big collages quickly.
