1  Plum Prom Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Krista_for_the_masses on: July 08, 2007 10:40:15 PM
late?  yes.  but still pretty!

I used a vintage pattern as inspiration, but essentially drafted it all on my own.  There are two layers, the top is a really cool textured leafy-looking fabric, and the bottom is a lace that peeps through.  Now for pictures!

and this shot, as unflattering as it may be, shows the really amazing texture of the top fabric.

I was pretty excited.

And as a side-note, it has in-seam pockets!  I didn't even need a purse!

2  leafy green formal dress (fairly image heavy) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Krista_for_the_masses on: February 23, 2007 01:28:30 PM
it's about that time of year . . . high schools everywhere are having winter formals, and mine was not too long ago.  I loved this dress so much, and the fabric is one of my all time favorites.  I used a Very Easy Vogue pattern (and it lived up to its name), so I'd definitely be willing to make it again in a more summery fabric or something.

The whole dress:

in action (this shot shows the side/back view pretty nicely, if only my arm weren't in the way):

P.S. huh, the pictures seem to flip themselves and get very wide on certain computers, but not others.  My apologies if you are one of those certain computers.

3  Re: CREEPY real Valentine Cards from the 30's & 40's in Valentine's Day by Krista_for_the_masses on: February 15, 2006 01:35:11 PM
I'm just scared.  When I saw this one I couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry because it was so creepy.

Then I kind of compromised and laughed until I cried.

4  help making this black halter dress? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by Krista_for_the_masses on: January 20, 2006 03:26:21 PM
So I was at Marshall Fields the other day and on a complete whim decided to try on this dress . . . that was a mistake because I completely fell in love and must now have it.  Unfortunately, I can't really afford it (being $139, I don't know a lot of people who could.  So I was wondering if anyone knew of any patterns that have a similar feel -- I've tried but have so far been unsuccessful.

I greatly appreciate any suggestions/finds/ideas you guys may have!

Thank you!

And yes, I got them at Target ... pretty much my favorite place ever.

The fabric is from JoAnn Fabrics, my second favorite place ever.

6  Alice in Wonderland, anyone? in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Krista_for_the_masses on: September 21, 2005 08:05:03 PM
So basically, Alice in Wonderland is an awesome movie, therefore it deserves to be immortalized via fashion - - - that's where my skirt comes in.

It's your basic circle skirt with two layers of blue and creamy-yellowy netting underneath.  It's a bit shorter than I intended, but I can figure out a way to work around that, I hope.

7  woodland creatures have taken over my skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Krista_for_the_masses on: July 24, 2005 12:17:15 PM
So I was digging through my linen closet for some reason unbeknownst to me ...

when I came across two fabulous items ...

this pillowcase, and ...

these sheets.

(close up of the fabric)

I hadn't seen anyone in my family even attempt to use either of these linens since I was about 4 years old ... so I figured they wouldn't be missed.

and then I made a skirt!

(close up of the button closure)

It makes me really happy.

8  Dora the Explorer is my hero ... so I made a shirt. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Krista_for_the_masses on: July 21, 2005 08:59:11 PM
Yes, this is my first crafster post.  I'm excited.

I'm also excited because this is my first from-scratch project.  Until now, I've only reconstructed things.

I love Dora the Explorer, so I found this fabric and had to use it.

Since the print is so big and kind of busy ... I kept the rest of the shirt sort of simple.  I used a really ugly pattern for an old-lady style dress; made it shorter, added a ruffle on the bottom and used yellow bias tape for straps.

        gathered bodices are neat ...

I'm excited to wear it.  I think I'll make lots of 5 year old friends if I go anywhere with this on.
