1  Re: TV Addict summer hiatus swap round 2 in The Swap Gallery by ragadyanne400 on: August 20, 2011 12:16:32 AM
Pioneer9 received her package from me today. Here are the pictures that I took before I sent it out:

Pushing Daisies and LOST ATCs

Dead Like Me inchies

Jayne Cobb sock doll. He was supposed to be a sock monkey, but the monkey-ness just wasn't working out, so he's just a sock man. I had a little bit of a hard time with his shirt, and it kind of turned out wonky, but hopefully his rather cunning hat distracts from that.

I've never seen Life on Mars, but this quote conjured up an amusing scene in my head, so I cross stitched it.

And finally, I made her a tote bag with a Carnivale inspired tree painted on it.

I had so much fun crafting for this swap, and I got some great stuff too. Thanks for being such a good partner, Pioneer9!

I received my package from pioneer9 today, and I am so thrilled with absolutely everything that she sent.

She wrote me a little message inside of a notecard with the Lost numbers on it.

I got an ATC (with frame) of my very favorite Fringe character, Astrid Farnsworth.

This one is about twice the size of an average ATC (I don't know if there is a special name for that), and she painted Kara's eye of Jupiter on it, along with a witty quote from Anders (Battlestar Galactica). This one came in a frame also, but it was too shiny to photograph.

Appa! One of my only requests was that I get something Appa-related, so I was pretty happy to see this guy. It's a paper mache ornament about 4" wide, covered in blue tissue paper and a portrait of Appa from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I also got a painted Tardis tote with a starry lining. I have a feeling that it will soon be stuffed full of yarn and needles for knitting on the go.

And I saved my two favorites for last.

How cute is he?! He's a Kokeshi style 10th doctor, and I absolutely love him! She even included his sonic screwdriver.

And the pièce de résistance is this totally awesome Firefly mini quilt. The fabrics that she chose represent the aesthetic and mood of the show so well. Bonus Fact: She recently became a fan of Firefly herself. Welcome to the dark side, Pioneer9.

I can only hope that she enjoys the stuff that I'm making for her as much as I enjoyed this package.

3  Gir (from Invader Zim) toddler costume in Halloween Costumes by ragadyanne400 on: November 02, 2010 08:34:46 PM
(moved this over from occasions and holidays, hope that's okay)

My sister has wanted a Gir costume for my niece since before the kid was born. This year was her first year trick or treating, and I had a little too much time on my hands, so I decided to grant my sisters wish. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, especially since I don't have a whole lot of sewing experience (curtains and pillows mainly). The hood wouldn't stay on quite right, but I just walked behind her and held it up to keep her from toppling over anyway.

Side note: She had the BEST time. She's only 14 months old and she was a little sick and very grumpy all day yesterday. We weren't expecting her to last very long, but once we started letting her grab the candy herself her mood completely changed. She was laughing and yelling and trying to run ahead of the group to the next house.

Body and hood are made out of fleece.
Eyes are made out of halfed Styrofoam balls, covered in white jersey with a felt pupil glued on.
Tongue is made out of felt and black wire - started to fall apart halfway through the night  Cry
Ears and nose are made out of felt.

If I had to do it again, I'd make the hood a little tighter, I'd add a tail and I would have made her a little pig trick or treat bag.

4  What is this? in Discussion and Questions by ragadyanne400 on: June 21, 2010 06:55:18 AM

I found this ... Huh ... in a bag of craft stuff at the thrift store. It's a metal u-shape with a wooden dowel that slides up and down the prongs. Does anybody know what it's called or what it's used for. If it turns our not to be craft related, I will gladly delete this.

I think it looks like a really low tech and poorly designed bike lock.

Just thought I'd share, since I've seen some other gluten free craftsters around. The semi-kind-of-sort-of recipe is blogged here
