Michael's is quite inexpensive and they usually give out a 30%-40% coupon off on a single non-sale item of your choice each week. They sell everything.

No Michael's in Halifax yet, busybee. However, they are building one down in Bayer's Lake. I'm guessing it will be open towards the end of this month or in November based on how the construction appears to be progressing.

When it does open up, if you don't have a car, take the 1, 10, or 14 to Mumford and hook up with the 52, which will take you right down to Bayer's Lake.

Last year I saw a job advertisement for managers at a Michael's in Halifax so I was pretty sure we were getting one. It was great getting confirmation on that. I don't know if you've been to the one on Moncton yet, but if it's anywhere near as nice as that one then I'll be a happy camper.

Now if I can just get someone to put a Hobby Lobby and a Target here... Wink

Evenings are good for me and afternoons on the weekend, blueblythe.

I'm definitely interested, starlings. I just sent you an e-mail.

Another place you might want to check is the Photo Memories store that is down in the same strip center as Quizno's down in Bayer's Lake. I can't remember if they had findings or not, but remember I was impressed at their selection of beads, especially considering that it primarily a scrapbooking store.

Since I posted this in the other Halifax thread, I figured I'd pass this along to you guys too...I'm happy to report that we are getting a Michael's! I have a friend whose company won a bunch of construction contracts down in Bayer's Lake and, according to him, one of them is a Michael's. If I understood him correctly, it will be right next to the Old Navy.

I don't know if you guys have ever been to a Michael's (definitely my favorite craft store back home in Texas), but they have tons of jewelry findings, wires, and beads. Plus, since they get to bulk buy most things are relatively inexpensive and they usually send out a 40% off coupon every week to people who are on their mailing list.

blueblythe, I would definitely be interested in a general crafting club.

I have some good news. I posted ages ago that I suspected that we were going to get a Michael's here. I'm happy to report that I was correct. According to my friend, his company has been awarded contracts for a bunch of construction projects down in Bayer's Lake. One of them is Michael's! If I understood him correctly, it will be right by the new Old Navy that is going up at the bottom of the driveway that is between the movie theater and the furniture store (either Lazy Boy or a mattress place, I think).

Crafts Canada got a bit better late last year, but it's still nowhere near as good as my old faves, Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Another interesting place to check out if you do anything with beads/jewelry, paper, or clay is the Photo Memories/Carsand Mosher store out in Bayer's Lake. I went in there just looking for a 1/2" hole punch for marble magnets and was really surprised at all of the other stuff they carried.

Fortunately, no power outages yet in my part of the neighborhood. It's pretty nasty out!

Tere, I'm over in Clayton Park West *waves*

I have some potentially exciting news for HRM crafters. A few weeks back I was perusing one of the job boards (Careerbuilder, I think) and noticed an advertisement for Michael's looking to hire management for a new store in Halifax. One of the biggest things I have missed about living in the States was Michael's, which is a huge, relatively inexpensive craft store. They sell all kinds of yarns, sewing materials, jewelry supplies, floral design, woodworking, doll-making suppllies, and just about any other crafty material you can think of. My suspicison is that they might be building it down in Bayer's Lake right by where they are putting in Old Navy.

thefakeassassin, you probably already have your backpack done, but if not, check Frenchy's for buttons. My MIL does art quilting and is always using buttons for different quilt art projects and she goes crazy in the button section every time I've been in a Frenchy's with her.

Thanks so much for sharing that, slick! I was inspired by your Frida mosaic to try one of my own, but didn't know where to begin.
