1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Strawberry the Summer PenGwen on: May 15, 2007 05:40:50 PM
Meet Strawberry, the Summertime PenGwen.  She's constructed from anti-pill fleece and quilter's cotton.  She's not your typical penguin but she's a lot of fun, and loves to go picking strawberries!

2  UNITED STATES / Virginia / Crafters in No.VA?! on: August 24, 2006 07:58:29 AM
So I just moved back to No.VA (graduated from school...) and am sorely lacking in friends who not only like to craft but like it enough to make time to do it!  If anyone else out there is similarly deficient, reply to this thread or contact me in some other way!

Let's get a No.VA crafting group going!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Some new pouches - photographing ideas? on: May 16, 2006 01:40:51 PM
I posted some of my other pouches earlier, but here are some new ones.  I feel like the photos don't really capture their cuteness etc... anyone have any ideas about that?

My camera always wants to adjust the colour and then it looks weird when I upload it to flickr/my computer, and they're always kind of dark.  But then when I shine all kinds of light on them, the colour gets weird too.  I saw a post about making a light box to photograph jewelry... do you think that would work better?

Thanks!
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Disney Swap Round 3? on: March 19, 2006 08:57:21 AM
So I just got back from Disney World and am still a bit obsessed... I saw that there have been 2 rounds of the disney swap, but I was thinking it would be cool to have a swap where each person chooses their favourite (or maybe 2, since it's hard to pick just one) movie.  A list could be compiled of all the participants and their fave movies and then people could choose to make other people stuff based on their movie choices.  Is this making sense?  It would be like the Unconditional Swap only with a Disney movie theme.  Smiley

Or we could just have another Disney swap.   Grin

5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Some little pouch-y wallets on: February 26, 2006 09:49:22 AM
Inspired by this post {http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=56805.0}, I've been allowing myself to make 2 of these after reading two chapters of my history course packet (i have to finish the whole thing, so i can write a midterm due thurs,  Embarrassed).  These wallet-y things are nice and easy, so it gives me some insta-gratification.

So the photos (hopefully) are small to save a bit on bandwidth, and there are a bunch more (I've made 8 now) on my flickr site ->http://www.flickr.com/photos/silver-lining/sets/1776945/
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Penguin Bag! on: February 22, 2006 08:40:56 AM
I discovered this cool HeatBond stuff at Joann's since they had interfacing stuff 40% off this weekend.  That plus a couple remnants =

the outside design

the pockets, you can't really tell, but there are two larger ones (which fit my new penguin wallet from gerbilonwheels and my iPod) and 2 pen/pencil slots to the right

The bag is big enough for me to put in a binder plus my other (less useful stuff)  Smiley

Even though everyone makes bags, i was thinking of making some of these (with penguins on) and some with lambs on (my Silver Lining logo-esque lambs) for a craft fair.  Think they'll sell?  I'm thinking I'd only make like 2 or 3 of each.
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / iPod Cosies! on: February 16, 2006 07:43:28 AM
Not sure if this goes here, but Mods, feel free to move this!
I'm thinking of selling some of these at the Richmond Craft Fair in April.  What do you guys think about pricing?  I was thinking $7 or $8?

Not much intro this time, just a photo:

The iPod is for size, I made another that's about 3x as big
9  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Drawing/Making Illustrations on the Computer? on: January 22, 2006 03:03:13 PM
Ok, so I searched and searched, but haven't found any threads about this... so hopefully I'm not reposting...

I'm not an artist, I can't draw, but I love the look of computer/digital illustrations.  (At least I think they're done on the computer...).  So!  I'd love to learn how to do it, and am hoping that it won't require as much ability to create realistic looking things...  Anyway, I've heard that Adobe Illustrator is the way to go, and I'm working on getting the software (but man, is it expensive).  But assuming I get it, how am I supposed to start?  If this is really confusing, here are some images that are along the lines of what I wanna be able to do (they're from the site IllustrationFriday.com:

10  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Crafts for Take Back the Night Fundraising? on: January 12, 2006 06:37:04 PM
Ok, so I did a search for fundraiser/fundraising/fundraiser ideas, and didn't come up with much.  I'm not sure this is the best place to post, but if not, Moderator, feel free to move this.  Anyway, my uni's annual Take Back the Night rally and vigil is in April, and I want to help raise funds.  Usually we sell shirts (which always do well) and last year we started selling buttons.  Unfortunately, even though those items do well, they don't make us a whole lot of money, and anyone who's ever put on a big event (sadly, yes TBTN is a big event) knows; they're expensive.  When school starts next week, we'll be having our first meetings for TBTN, and I'd like to come prepared with some ideas of easy (but cool and sellable to uni-aged ppl) crafts we could make for little money.  I'm pretty sure that I can get a decent amount of people to help me craft, but money is obviously tight.  I think that I'd like the items to be able to have the logo on, or not.  I'm hoping the items would be things that people could really use, so that even if they're not into supporting TBTN (though we wish everyone were), they'd still want/need to have one.  Here are some of my ideas:

~ Simple iPod/phone/camera cosies like these: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=73315.msg688976#msg688976
~ Card wallets of some simple design
~ Sculpey erasers for/on pencils... maybe we could get imprinted pencils?
~ Homemade clay in some kind of neat/cute container that says "life is what you make of it"

Anyway, any ideas/advice about fundraising or TBTN in general would be great!
