1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / overdying swtc oasis (soy silk) - koolaid? on: April 15, 2008 07:46:45 AM
Hi, I've got some SWTC Oasis soy silk yarn in the Napa Valley colourway (sort of sludge green/pale yellow/pale purple). The more I look at it, the less convinced about the colour I am - the overall effect is just too yellowy for me. (Wearing yellow makes me look dead. Tongue)

I understand I can use koolaid to dye soy silk? Has anyone got any ideas about what results I might get with the different colours? I was thinking a darkish green would leave me with dark green/yellowy green/brown(?) or darkish blue would give various shades of bluey greens, but koolaid don't seem to do either of those. Would the lemon/lime or blue moon berry be too light? Would the dark reds turn the purple bits too pink?

Grateful for any ideas!

Sorry to post and run - will check back tomorrow!
2  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Temporarily changing the colour of shoes??? on: October 14, 2005 04:31:12 AM
I think this probably isn't going to be possible, but if anyone's going to know, it's going to be you brilliant lot! The problem is I'm being my friend's bridesmaid next week. It's a really tiny informal wedding but she wants me to wear this long pink evening gown type frock. I really hate wearing high heels, but I'm going to have to with this dress because it's just too long not to... but I can't afford to buy a pair of shoes that I'm never going to wear again.

I have one pair of plain black heels that I drag out if I ever really have to wear heels. I probably could wear them as they are, but I'm not sure if black is just a bit "heavy" looking with this dress. And I don't want to change the colour permanently because the shoes are more use black than anything else. What I was thinking was, the dress has silver beading on it, so might there be some way I could stick some silver fabric on the shoes but get it off again after? Or even some sort of paint that would come off again?

Any ideas welcome! Thank you!
